According to a list of the most concerning space objects complied by the European Space Agency, an asteroid, known as 2006 QV89, with a diameter wider than a football field has a roughly one in 7,000 chance of hitting the Earth later this year. The ESA has 2006 QV89 ranked fourth on its top ten list. It is likely that the asteroid will pass Earth at a distance of more than 4.2 million miles, according to current modeling.

Well, imo, this is it... We have been warned! They would never tell us, the chance is 1 to 70 or 1 to 7 because the panic will kill more people before the asteroid strikes.

If it hits though, it matters where. Relatively small, it will not destroy a continent, but it could flood coastal regions...

That's all the impetus to go blow all of my savings on booze and hookers post-haste.

4,200,000 miles is looooooogn wat off . Deviating 100th of 1% would put it on a collision path. But the 100th of 1% path is out of 360°~ of its possible paths.

But just in case where is Captain Marvel?

The world awaits her .

ah, didn't know it is going to hit Las vegas...I'd vote for another place

not pinned as well...24h ago. The news made it to MSM today, 6h ago.
Anyway the importance is not who posted it first, but which asteroid hit us first
Until now, NASA always said, but don't worry it won't hit us. Now ESA admits a slightest possibility, and that made me worry

ok let keep discussing who posted it first. I admit I fail. So what?
The thread wasn't pinned and wasn't in the Live or recent section. I don't have the whole damn day to read.

Much more important is WHY ESA WOULD GIVE THAT PROBABILITY OF IMPACT IF THE ASTEROID ORBITS FARTHER THAN THE MOON? OTHERS PASSED CLOSER!

2012 username. Check.
Doomporn. Check.

So they want us to be clueless, that is why they are telling us.

exactly that is the case.
The other thread, my respect, says the asteroid will hit Las vegas. Oh yes....
The biggest chance if it hits AT ALL, is the Pacific.

But I see most of you guys don't give a s..t about the asteroid rather who is the next to be ridiculed. Keep doing it until the last moment

History repeat itself. Some asteroid WILL hit the earth one day. We are way, way overdue. I hope it hit ocean, rather than land. I'd take flooding instead ash up in the atmosphere threatening much worse.

Sorry I am not going to hit a deep depression over an event I have no control over that has about a 0 chance to happen.

I looked at the other thread OP, I did not see Vegas as the impact point.

Wow, someone needs to chill out a little bit.
The other threads reference to Vegas was a joke. Nowhere in the article, which you used as a source too btw, did it say it could hit Vegas. Did you read the thread and source?

Well, imo, this is it... We have been warned! They would never tell us, the chance is 1 to 70 or 1 to 7 because the panic will kill more people before the asteroid strikes.

So you think they are lying about the 1 in 7,000 chance?

not pinned as well...24h ago. The news made it to MSM today, 6h ago.

Fox news, the original source in the other thread and a source in your OP isn't MSM?
Your 6h ago source, www.independent.co.uk... , used older sources for their fear monger spin on the original story.

Ya know what, screw chilling out, embrace the madness and go full blown panic mode.

The post is fine. It's the doom porn of saying they must be lying and it's going to hit us that is not needed.

Well, according to JPL 's close approach list the last close approach of 2006 QV89 was in 2016 and the next will be in 2024. No 2019 flyby even mentioned. .???

Just did a quick search on ESA which didn't turn anything up either. Fake news, maybe?

Asteroid has not been assigned a number in the TORINO SCALE

The Torino Scale (named after city in Italy where conference devised it)

en.wikipedia.org...

Scale takes account of probability of impact, coupled with estimated damage should it hit

Currently no active objects listed

Should we try to nuke it...

...or just let it crater Vegas??
