Think of the children.

I lived in Alabama for a short while (not something I admit in public)

The state is absolutely gorgeous, but some of the people there are either inbred, being poisoned by something in the water, or just plain "different".

With a statement like that , evidently it wasnt long enough to decrease the ignorance.

Y'all realize the media is blowing up an idiot from a town of 2000 people right?

This is hardly a significant story and this yokel is hardly important in the scheme of things.

You have to wonder why this is getting the attention that it is.

You know exactly why it's getting the attention that it is. Because he said something "mean spirited" about LBTGIFMDSQ.

I don't think so. I think it would get attention if any mayor called for murder of any group.

Nah-ah, it's only when those whiners like the Joos, the Gays and the Coloreds have bad stuff said about them. If someone said 'kill whitey' no one would blink and eye.

KILL WHITEY!!!!!!!!!

I would think of the comment as killing out the moniker/movement, not gays in general, but I guess it can be taken either way depending on how you look at it. He also said "We live in a society where homosexuals lecture us on morals, transvestites lecture us on human biology, baby killers lecture us on human rights and socialists lecture us on economics.” which is quite accurate.

I could almost believe that, but wording is key.

“The only way to change it would be to kill the problem out. I know it’s bad to say but without killing them out there’s no way to fix it,” WBRC reported.

I read that a couple of time. Yes he talks about "the problem" but he also clearly says "them". Them = people. He could have said.

kill the problem, killing it out... that could be understood as something different.

Like I said, it could be taken both ways. He claims he wasn't referring to the people, so at this point, it's up to the person reading it to make the decision based on their opinion. The first thing I thought about when I read this is the movement, not the people. And that was before I read the article and the Mayor's response.

He's an idiot yokel from a town of 2,000 who sets the tone for that town. He's the mayor.

I wonder how cops treat gay folk in his small town?

I wonder if there's any wink-wink, nudge-nudge "We can tase 'em and the Mayor's got our backs with the city council" shenanigans going on in their governmental culture right now?

I wonder what it might be like to be a gay person in his town?

To answer your direct question - it's getting media attention because it's 2019 and the only news fit to print is the sort of news that makes people afraid and angry. That, however, doesn't alter the fact that this IS exactly the sort of thing that needs to be dragged into the light and made public knowledge.

I also offer another question... Why doesn't this story include something like "And the Governor of Alabama has issued a statement condemning..." or "The city council has called for the mayors resignation..."?

Those are the questions I am left with.

Oh, I bet this town has Hamilton going on right now as the school play and non-stop reruns of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy on their public access station.

He's just endorsing really-late-term abortions.

I'd like to late term abort 99% of the population.

More bourbon for me.

Better parking also.

Win-Win!

I said it before and I say it once more...

Don't hate someone because they're gay, non-white or a different religion because once you take the time to know them there are so many better reasons to hate them.

You want to hear the weird thing, Alabama has a ton of gay people. I've lived all over, and seriously, there is a huge gay community there. A lot of the gay people there come from Old Money too.

I think it's getting attention because Alabama is getting attention.

No one would have ever given a crap about what this moron had to say on the matter had the media not been crawling around Alabama looking for juicy stories to beat Alabama over the head.

Remember that Alabama recently passed an abortion law that is making liberals very angry about not being able to kill babies.

Agreed, a mayor or council leader calling for final solutions anywhere in the west makes frontpage international news. So far he's been allowed to keep his job and tried to defend the comments, which has caused the story to spread wider.

It could have been a cold clinical analysis, not a policy proposal..

“Hypothetically if you wanted to wipe out gays.. you would have to spend a couple (maybe couple hundred) centuries killing every single one born before they reproduced..

It is called evolution..”

It could have been him making a comment on the futility of fighting gay rights..

“The only way to stop it is to kill them all, and obviously that isn’t on the table... so screw it. Get married.. “

As an ordained minister, let me explain one simple thing.

Whatever YOU do, if there is indeed a God (and I say this because I've also learned that there are over 4300 different religions on this 3rd rock from the sun), whatever "judgement" there is, is between you, and that God.

Mathew 7:1 explains it for me. MY job is not to judge you. That's up to God. And, none of us will know what that judgement may be until we then meet that God.

Live your life, follow some basic laws (don't kill, rob, sexually assault, you get the idea), just don't ask me or anyone else for special privileges because you "insert particular legal fetish/habit/lifestyle/whatever).

Live your life. Let others do the same. And please, don't ask me for special privliges because you are dating a frog. Or whatever.

Fred..
