It’s ours, we stole it fair and square.

I’m sure the statute of limitations is up anyway .

Plus I doubt a name change by the The US Citizenship and Immigration Services can be applied retroactively .

If they get the land back, do we still have to send the checks? Will the guys out in front of Safeway still need my change to catch the bus to get to their job interview? If the Redhaired Giants show up do they get to claim their land back too?

The Native Americans won't push it, there are a bunch of crazy people out there with lots of guns and many more who will go crazy if they believe the native Americans are going to take away the houses they spent years of their lives to pay off. Not a problem, Native Americans are mostly smart people.

I would be OK With the Unites States Federal Government Ceding the Lands of Baltimore , Chicago , New York , and San Francisco back to the Native American Tribes that once Inhabited them . Let them do what they Wish with the Pale Faces who Dwell there ............

As a Cherokee, first off let me say that the idea of reclaiming ancestral lands is just stupid.

Secondly, screw your idea.

Y'all moved us from up north to a nice little patch of land with oil rights in Oklahoma.

So no, keep your sh!thole cities, tyvm.

And we'll keep our oil and our casinos.

I guess some palefaces do too, since my entire post was sarcasm.

Although I did put this out there as the first line...

So not sure why you are bringing up me being upset about anyone "stealing" anything.

I had thought your post funny.

So was responding in kind.

Except for the "move to the sh!thole" cities part.

I'll take a firm pass, TYVM!!!

ETA... since you were the one that brought up the term paleface... I've never actually heard it used when NAs are talking about white people.

After all, most of us are mixed-breed anyways now.

So would we have to call ourselves semi-pale faces?

I'm Cherokee/Irish.

So if you want to sling slang around, I'd prefer to be called a Cherehonkie.

The sorted history of this blue marble we live on is built on peoples migrating to new lands; some times those lands where already inhabited and said lands where either successfully defined or lost.

The Americas do not hold a unique place in this history; just like almost every patch of land on our globe the lands in the Americas have changes hands many times over the ten thousand years since humans set foot on this continent.

Forty years ago, researchers thought the peopling of the Americas was fairly straightforward. It was thought that humans arrived in a single southern wave of migration about 13,000 years ago, which corresponds to the spread across North America of distinctive stone tools attributed to a group called the Clovis culture.

But thanks to new archaeological discoveries and more precise dating techniques, we now know that the Clovis people wielding these tools weren't the first Americans. At several sites in North and South America, researchers have convincingly shown that pre-Clovis people arrived centuries before these tools appear.

What is so special about the many different tribes of people we now call Native Americans in colloquial conversation? Why are they collectively (they are not all the same group of people) seen as different than everyone else? Yes; their ancestors lost their land; some times through violent means. But the same thing can be said for many groups of humans through out the history human existence. The same thing can be said about them when they sometimes violently took lands away from others. So why are they special? Why must they alone be protected from histories unstoppable move forward?

Is it because some of us alive today have ancestors that took land from these people, sometimes through violent means; and now those people feel guilty for what their ancestors did? That guilt is admirable; maybe if more people felt guilty about the wrong things their families did to others the world would be a less hostile place.

But that guilt doesn't negate the fact that the world has changed since these peoples ancestors did the horrible things they did. And not everyone living here today share in that ancestral guilt.

"Native Americans", who dispretionatly find themselves in poverty because of how some of the current inhabitants have treated them, should be help out of that poverty because it is the right thing to do ... not because history or the United States owe them something.

I think you are missing the entire concept of "right of conquest" which is how much of the country was won. The whole "California belongs to Mexico" is SO laughable b/c they lost a war (SPAINISH descendents lost the war), and the Spanish took control via conquest. They seem to want to overlook these facts or are oblivious/ignorant of these facts.
