The US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, told the leaders of several congressional committees the president was claiming a national emergency existed because of a purported threat from Iran and was, as a result, giving permission for 22 arms deals with around $8bn (£6.3bn).

The White House is continuing its plan to start a war with Iran by 2020 and leveraging Saudi Arabia to be on 'our side' when it happens. This is in spite of the Saudi's human rights abuses and the humanitarian crisis it caused in Yemen.

This seems to be the new normal for the White House; create an emergency, when Congress doesn't do what you want, declare an emergency to work around Congress.

If this were any other president Congress would have approved the money, or just given the Saudis the weapons.
Been doing it for decades.

Pretty fooked up deep state corruption going on. They don't even try to hide their disdain for the American people anymore. Checks and balances who needs them right.

I don't know why there's a space between the 'u' and the 'r' at the end of the code. When I go to edit it there is no space.

Edit to add: It inserted another space. Try this: www.independent.co.uk...

Regardless of who the president is, and who controls which house, I think that it sets a very dangerous precedent to have a President who keeps using executive powers to sidestep the checks and balances that are supposed to prevent abuses of power. Particularly when it comes to selling weapons to regimes that we know have little respect for human rights, and which we know are involved in foreign wars to prop up other dubious regimes.

This isn't a trump thing. I'd feel the same if it were Obama, Bush or Clinton.

Politicians don't laugh with us, they laugh at us.

Most brainwashed people disagree with that statement. And those who do agree, don't do anything about it.

It's a problem.

Just seen it on BBC news. They showed Trump with a demo board pointing to deals while the Saudi princes next to him appeared to be failing to restrain themselves from bursting into giggles. Total classic footage

Thing is though, Trump is doing the right thing. Like it or not Saudi's have bag loads of dosh and somebody will step in if Trump doesn't sell them the steel. Russia, Brits EU China all want that dosh, it's gonna go to one of the. Saudi is outnumbered 3/1 in population by Iran, they need the power to keep the Iranian menace in check.

So America is still arming the world, we outsiders see each and every president regardless of political bias selling mass amount of arms to unstable countries all for the mighty $$$

Freeing nations one bullet at a time

Wow 😳

The White House is continuing its plan to start a war with Iran by 2020 and leveraging Saudi Arabia to be on 'our side' when it happens.

Saudi Arabia doesn’t need any leveraging they’re already on our side militarily and have been for decades.

They do a lot of awful crap but the stuff above board politically is a known factor.

This is in spite of the Saudi's human rights abuses and the humanitarian crisis it caused in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia exports terrorism and Iran exports terrorism . That’s a push in my book for this current conflict.

Iran has caused the death of American citizens and Saudi Arabia has done the same. That’s another push for this current conflict .

Homosexuality is a capital offense in both countries . That’s another push .

Drug crimes are a capital offense in both countries. That’s another push.

Using humanitarian rights to vilify either country is silly. They’re both screwed up due to their dark age religious beliefs.

The “plan” for the war is already underway and Iran has a large part in it . The conflict in Yemen is a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia . Any blame for that conflict goes both ways .

This seems to be the new normal for the White House; create an emergency, when Congress doesn't do what you want, declare an emergency to work around Congress.

With your own words you called the Yemen proxy war a “ humanitarian crisis “.

Are you saying that isn’t a emergency ?

Your post leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Nobody wants war. Nobody wants a humanitarian crisis.

But nobody should use either of those platforms as a means to attack a person they have distaste for .

It’s like the gun grabbers tactic of climbing atop a pile of bodies after every shooting to attack the NRA .

There is a lot of information that the President and executive branch know that Congress does not. That being said, although I am in favor of non-proliferation of weapons in that region, there may in fact be credible evidence for the administration to make such a move behind congress' back.
