True. But when it was at it's best, it was more like watching a debate than a sermon. They often did at least try to consider different viewpoints. Even if they did obviously favor one in particular.

The change is really not unique to star trek; in the past most people (and so it was reflected in our media) where respectful of other people; today that has completely changed to where most of us are no longer respectful of others and instead demand that everyone be just like us.

Star Trek has always pushed a political ideology; yes it was in the vain of social cooperation and inclusion. But in the past Star Trek was inviting to all; they hoped to change minds through respectful dialogue and debate.

But today; like most things; its creators have become militant in their view point and have resorted to force feeding it to their audiences rather than just expose it to their audiences.

Would concepts like "infinite diversity in infant combinations" or "the prime directive" or "cowboy diplomacy" be a part of star trek if it was first created today? I don't think so.

JJ Abrams just needs to screw off because he ruined Star Trek films....

I've not mentioned the new series that's supposedly in development with a reprisal from Patrick Stewart. However, I will suspect it will be as much as a failure as everything since Voyager.


Are today's film and studio creators so afraid current gen fears from arm chair socialists and arm chair SJW's, that they cannot continue in the path that Star Trek was meant to go?

Ugh, another one of those types who doesn't understand the very basis & POINT of the show they complain about.

First, the aforementioned basis & missed point -- current events mashed into a sci-fi space show is Trek's core shtick, I can list numerous prime example episodes, arcs, character and species themes based heavily on past and current events & social trends in real human history if you want, since that concept in Trek obviously went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over your head.

Second, TOS is s# TV. Can we please stop using mediocre acting and crayola box design as some marvelous example of modern genius? It's not. It was barely passable for it in the 60's, the social shiz from back then overtly mixed in is what turned heads. Certainly not the acting, costumes or set designs. There's a reason it only lasted a couple seasons.

Third, DIS was already renewed for a third season a WHILE ago, so passing it off as a 2-season show up against 7-season vets is disingenuous. Let them film it, and let it grow it's beard already. If TNG had quit after it's first 2 god-awful seasons, there'd be nothing for you prostrate to here. Get my point? No? Oh dear god, watch the first 2 seasons of TNG and then tell me which show was really worse out the gate.

Fourth, Star Trek: Picard isn't supposedly in development, it IS in development & currently shooting. Photo leaks from filming have made it out, it'll satisfy the visual purists in the uniforms department at least, and satisfy others wanting to see SF HQ in something other than a matte painting format.
Last I read about STP, Stewart is purportedly pretty deeply involved in the production end, so I'm fairly confident it's going to be on the cerebral end like TNG smoothed out to be. But people will still find a reason to bitch about that established franchise formula being used again, and thus can't be pleased for nothing.

Fifth, about the movies. ST4 and First Contact stand out as the greats in the bunch. TWOK is a very, very overrated movie, IMO. It's my least favorite of the bunch, including Nu-Trek, that I wouldn't be sad to see disappear into a black hole.

That is always the case. I remember the early days of the StatTrek.com message board when Enterprise first aired. Many people where so concerned about theme music, upside down Akira Class star ships, and the fact that a series made 40 years later look more realistic than the original.

I’m a huge fan of the world TNG, DS9 and even Voyager created, I have my reservations about this new show, I love Patrick Stewart, but he’s nearly 80!

I’m trying to stay positive though, I’m sitting watching Gran Torino at the moment, and well, Mr Eastwood shows that being an old dude doesn’t stop it from making it work.

Oh yes it's there, but more subdued. My point was the licensing aspect is a complete crap response.

Almost every show is infested with PC nonsense, but only some are so infested I won't watch. I am not a stupid SJW, I can handle different ideas. Shows where anyone that isn't a SJW PC nut is portrayed as evil, and Trump and his followers are cast as Nazi monsters, I will not watch. I have no problem with a show like the Orville that delves into different things. It's PC on some issues, not everything everywhere.

The Orville is Star Trek lite, wrapped up in a contemporary package, have a look at the names producing and directing episodes.

I find it to be more like ST than the new ST shows. My whole point in bringing it up was to refute the argument that a show needing to be 25% different means it has to be what they ended up with. It's a false argument.
