[...]ExxonMobil scientists made startlingly accurate predictions about climate change as early as 1982 — and then spent millions of dollars on a misinformation campaign to sow public doubt about climate change.

They didn’t need to convince the public that the climate crisis wasn’t happening. They just had to muddy the waters enough to prevent us from doing anything.

They provoked uncertainty: Maybe the climate crisis isn’t happening. And even if it is, maybe it’s not caused by humans burning fossil fuels. (Of course, it is happening and it is caused by humans.)

The result was inaction.[...]

The Real Climate Change Culprits Have Never Been Punished

In related news:

[...]Cloud Peak Energy helped fund the Institute of Energy Research, a Washington, D.C.-based group that has dismissed the “so-called scientific consensus” on climate change and regularly criticizes investments in renewable energy as a “waste” of resources.[...]

A MAJOR COAL COMPANY WENT BUST. ITS BANKRUPTCY FILING SHOWS THAT IT WAS FUNDING CLIMATE CHANGE DENIALISM.

That should be more than enough for a solid OP on ATS, I can't see how this isn't telling tales already. But another great thinker came to mind:

“The price of inaction is far greater than the cost of making a mistake.”

Both sides are full of it! Of course there is influence on the climate from pollution ,look at China. No the world won’t end in 12 years like that kid from Yorktown New York says either. Volcanos effect climate change dramatically, we get a supersized one and we’ll all need snow shoes. I trust nobody on this topic, too much money involved

Back around then, Tree huggers were trying to tell everyone and nobody would listen to them. The general public did not want to mess up their ability to make a living, most people knew the huggers were right, but sided with industry. We did not have the options back then we have now.

The whole climate agenda crap they are trying to do is just crap, we need to start being satisfied with having a simpler life and change how our society works. We need to build factories here in America with better environmental properties, not give money to some European climate agenda to blow as they please and only concentrate on carbon dioxide. We have to change the people, we cannot be flying all over all the time, we cannot be shipping stuff across the ocean. We must make efficient small factories and spread out farms, we must stop making corn gas, that is worse on the environment than regular gas.

It is way more than blaming it on carbon. That is the biggest scam they have ever thought up. Vacation at home, try to not buy things you do not really need, try to buy essential things that last for years, argue they need to build refrigerators that last for twenty five years again. What is wrong with using a drill that has a cord on it, one that can do it's work for a lifetime, cordless drills need to be replaced way too often, the chargers take lots of juice when they are plugged in, the transformers are always bleeding off some juice. We have to change and have a simpler life. We do not need to be amish people, but how about this.....

www.hutterites.org... Check out their big kitchen and foods in the cooking link. They get chastized for being a commune type community, but they have families that make up a community, I was checking out some of their foods they serve, it's cool. You do not have to be religious to form many of these communities around our country.

No the world won’t end in 12 years

Read the linked article for more detail, that's essentially what some ExxonMobile scientists said:

“At the high end, some scientists suggest there could be considerable adverse impact including the flooding of some coastal land masses as a result of a rise in sea level due to melting of the Antarctic ice sheet,” it continued, stating this would only take place centuries after temperatures warmed by 3 degrees Celsius.

Exxon predicted in 1982 exactly how high global carbon emissions would be today

12 years or "decades". Who cares? I mean... you could just wait for it to be sure. Afraid to make mistakes we are, which is why we'll probably do what we can do best: nothing.

Have a nice swim my fellow naked monkeys!

No.
Uncertainty comes from the decades of failed "predictions" anyone can observe, ex: NONE of the prediction from Gore's first film came true.

There is just NO WAY a TRACE gas in the atmosphere (CO2) can have the claimed effect when there are more powerful warming gas in the atmosphere (ex: water vapor) which are 100s of time more common in the atmosphere.

Finally, temperature has varied far more in Earth's history with no ill effects, with most of that variation due to solar output and orbital variations.

If anything, with the dropping number of sunspots, we are headed for a Maunder minimum, a global cooling.
( which has no relation to human activity and so cannot be as easily taxed and/or used to imposed Communist controls).

ENOUGH!

A large portion of the people today that spend their time crying about fossil fuels likely wouldn't even be alive if it wasn't for fossil fuels. The problem isn't that the industrial revolution and fossil fuels happened. It is that we never fully embraced the next revolution already at our fingertips and moved beyond it. Instead, we are obsessed with going backwards, fighting phantoms from the past and labeling it progress and deriving narcissistic self-pleasure from it.

We should have more of the mindset of "thank you for everything you did for humanity fossil fuels, but now it is time to move on to the next stage of evolutionary progress". You should always be wary of anyone who needs to create a boogeyman in order manufacture political capital. History couldn't teach a more clear lesson on this matter. Their intentions are never pure or genuine and nearly always self-serving.

Simply acknowledging that anthropogenic climate change exists accomplishes nothing. It is like acknowledging that socialism a lot of times leads to authoritarianism and mass murder or famine. That doesn't mean we can dismiss all socialist concepts or that the other side of the argument is 100% correct in their opposition to every socialist issue.

Of course the fossil fuel industry is going to try to hang on their empire and relevance. What do you expect them to do? And why shouldn't they until someone gives them a viable reason not to? The issue is that we are not embracing the next step in our evolution. The politics against the propaganda from the fossil fuel industry is essentially playing the same game. A desperate bid for control and relevance shaped by self-absorption. They've embraced that muddy landscape the same as the fossil fuel industry has.

The key to clean energy, a better environment and future is in the hands of innovators and visionaries like Elon Musk. Not in the infantile minds of politicians like Orcasio-Cortez.

Correct
Methane and other gases is what heated Venus , which started ALL of this CO2 Global warming scam
Folks that still believe in such need to speak to actual real scientists learned in the real sciences who use data from much greater than 50 years ago.

As always said he who knows controls or knows of the future, earth has been hammered population almost to extinction before, and not all that long ago,it has happened several times in the past.now it appears it really is"He who dies with the most toys wins" these banksters are shedding their sheep cover, sickening to think of such people exist, story's of experimenting on US citizens, maiming and killing them, all to get results, and the fact all the Nazi Drs were trained in the US.,just like today, the terrorist's from all over the world train in Georgia of the USA,this is all been planned funny it's always 6 million Jews were killed, same number for WW1 and WW2,who came out of this last war rich?

Weather patterns have changed and always will. Look at the Mississippi River now and study the bird and fish migration. Been changing for the last 40 years. I know, I lived next to it.

ExxonMobile - the communists who invented that old CO2 scam. Sure.

And then there's you, the random internetz trolls with the "really real science" from the alternative universe which we have yet to see. Why do you have such a hard time to debunk a thing then?

ENOUGH you say? You must be used to bark commands, it's a pity that I'm so bad with following blindly. Innit? Try a debate and present some facts? No? What was that? You say there isn't ENOUGH actual data to give it a shot?

You're killing me, smalls. Literally. Thanks for the laugh!

As usual these conspiracy theories are easily debunked with a little common sense. The idea is that the evil oil companies try to discredit climate change and buy off politicians from doing anything about it so they can keep making money off oil, like if we changed to alternative energy they would go broke or something. In reality, companies that big would just change their focus to alternative energies and keep making money. The oil companies are already starting to do this. The motive isn't there, sorry.

Forty public policy groups have this in common: They seek to undermine the scientific consensus that humans are causing the earth to overheat. And they all get money from ExxonMobil.

Have a nice swim my fellow naked monkeys!

My son in law has a facebook account. Every once in a while he shows me stuff that pops up or is forwarded. A couple of days ago, or yesterday, he says "Now there are safety tips about swimming in the ocean. When coming up to the surface, position your arms so as to spread the plastic out of the way."

61 years ago things like this were available. I saw it about '66. It's kind of long, skip to about 49:00 if you don't want to watch the whole thing.

So true , I don't trust anyone either . If they wanted to talk about ways to deal with garbage or get rid of plastic I'm all ears . The climate is going to change and no amount of money or taxes is going to stop it .

There is no such consensus. That's been debunked for years. The consensus is that the climate is changing. How much humans contribute is an open question. This is why you guys can't make any headway on this issue. It's not because some bogeyman is stopping you behind the scenes, it's because you lie, people find out you're lying, and then they won't listen to you. Same thing happens with the gun control issue.

Oo,oooo, ooo, oooooooo, I know this one...

The climate 'will' change.

That is all.

As an afterthought, the Hawaiin volcano last year emitted about 200 million tons of CO2. That is roughly ten times the amount from all the cars in the world combined.

One major eruption emits more CO2 than the whole of mankind in all of recorded history. It is assinine to think we cause climate change with CO2 emissions and its even more assinine to think we can fix it. Its nature doing what nature does. And it will continue to do so whether we like it or not.

A typical passenger car emits 4.6 metric tons of CO2 per year. Link
There are over 1 billion cars in the world. Link

Oo,oooo, ooo, ooooooo, no you don't. Not even close
