I think you're missing the point!

It is absolutely not a hit piece on him (personally). It's the subtlety of the impending doom, the understatement which plants the most fertile seed. That is isn't a hit piece on him is why it plays as well as it does. Rachel Maddow has no subtlety at all, and comes off as a raving lunatic (same for Alex Jones, to be fair). This piece is a whole other kind of mind-rape.

I was actually being serious when I said this was a clever piece which includes sedition and political activism in the guise of journalism. It's the hot ember at the bottom of a pail of oily rags, which is exactly what it is intended to be. It's not in-your-face. It's meant to instill fear, and there is nothing more dangerous than a wounded wild animal when the enemy is closing in on all sides. It's not seeing the wolf that scares as much as hearing it off in the darkness somewhere.

My OP was not intended to be a joke. It was actually serious. It's not about Rachel Maddow's veins popping out of her forehead as she rants some bizzaro world stuff. It is a very well crafted, well written, propaganda piece designed to do one specific thing...instill fear, and breed rage.

Ask yourself this...why not just say this is going to be a great few years for Clarence Thomas? Why throw in all the political fireballs like "Roe v. Wade, and LGBT, and Dred Scot" and so many other controversial things to the left? It wasn't a piece about what Thomas HAS done, as much as it is a piece to instill fear about what he MIGHT do!

Excellent reply Disk. From your more conservative standpoint I can understand your concern and that it does have it's ''agenda'' woven thoughtout. I see it.

Though I must say that as many here see me on the left, it instills no fear in me at all, no rage, no ''the end is near'' kinda stuff. Now it can be considered that there are those who are more middle of the road, more relaxed about our political situation that this piece might stoke more towards doom yet with all the doom out there already, doom I might add that is pushed by Trump on a weekly basis that this piece almost seems innocuous.

But I see it Disk. You mention the buzz points , the ''political fireballs like Rove Wade, and lgbt and Dred Scot that are controversial to the left. I would like to ask you are these not controversial to the right as well? For a couple of decades Roe Wade was considered a done deal to the left while at the same time it was always controversial and damned by the right.

So yeah, had it been totally bipartisan it would have said as you suggest that the next few years will be great for Thomas. But this piece alone I think will not scorch the fires of modest lefties while at the same time any deep lefties already know how the court is turning and that indeed the SC is in the hands of conservative for the foreseeable future.

This one point alone is why many of the people I know voted for Trump. They did not care, nor do they now, if he is abrupt, rude, crude, etc.... as long as he does his job as president. And so far, the economic indicators prove he is doing just that also.

Likewise, great reply.

You know, this may surprise you (and some others here), but I support Roe v. Wade. So, in answer to your question, I wouldn't be happy if Roe v. Wade was overturned. In that theme, yes, it was a concern for the right also, but for me personally I'm on the left's side with that particular ruling. I've taken some heat for this in the past, but it's how I feel.

As for the balance of your post, let's hope everyone on the left is on as even a keel as you seem to be. That, and able to be objective.

ETA - And you know, I guess it was my posture on Roe v. Wade which prompted me to post the OP to begin with. Because I've seen first hand the explosive and emotional, and irrational, reactions from some people at the mere mention of the case, let alone any discussion much less debate on the subject. And, this is a truly bipartisan statement too, because I've seen it on both sides!

Flying, i get your point, but this isn't mind rape. It's political bias in journalism which happeneds all the time. Thanks for sharing an example but i think you overuse strong words to describe a subtle soft example.

Mind rape is Hitler slowly seducing the public into mass obedience under the guise of german nationalism. That's mind rape.

Clickbait words brings clicks but it also turns alot of people off.

Trust me, I don't make any money on clicks! (or flags, or stars)!

Your opinion is duly noted.

I still think it is a very real form of mind rape. So we agree to disagree on this point.

Fair enough.

Yes, the economy can be seen as a positive result of his presidency. However I am not so confident that this is more than just a blip on the indicators.

While the direction he is promoting may lead to long term growth and solvency for the country to me at least this is not a given. If I have learned nothing else over the last 30 years it is that business and the money that flows through it does not automatically insure a solid economy. A sustainable economy.

While we can all hope that this up turn is going to last that hope would be placed on the backs of capitalists who we can trust to hold the nation and it's future in as high regards as do most of us. That they will build and hire and all the rest in a fashion that is stable and self generating. This of course is the hope.

However I do not place that much hope in the hands of those who profit from a booming economy. All to often there are gold diggers and high profit wranglers who are only in it for the short term profits and when things get rough they cut pull up stakes and run off to the next gold field.

And while I am sure that there are a large number of those first type of people building and hiring and generating not only profit but stability in the market I see no promises on Trumps part that the others, the wranglers will be held accountable for their dabbling.

Trump himself from my study of his history seems to be the later. Rather than being a builder he as mostly a borrower, a buyer and a lbrander, buying other weak companies and putting his name on them and selling not a better product but rather just his name as if that would make it's worth increase. By seeing his history we can see that this is an understandably reasonable evaluation of his business prowess. He is a taker.

And when the ''takers'' control the economy it is doomed. With Trum as Taker in Chief I see no controls on them at all.

All to often Roe Wade is tossed about as if it is a simple issue, women's rights or baby murder. Almost never do I see any real discussion on it's seminal effect on human history. But that is for another time Disk. Thank you for the discussion.

Antifa is a joke in your town.

No seriously, they're so sad and nowhere to be found lately. They are what happens from an ignorant, over-hyped series of left wing demonstrations and protests. Not sure if you've been to one, the closest experience I have is from going to a KKK and white nationalist rally protest 15 years ago at an important local historical site where the end of a war was decided.

You had a group of "black block" or "anarchists" or whatever the hell each person identified as and a group of Jewish and pro-Israel protestors beside it. There was a barracade and lots of police. Across the field, so far that you could barely see them, was a stage or center area of a line of people where the clansmen were doing what they do.

And that's.. trying to shout offensive and corny statements across a field with a megaphone that you could still barely hear. I tried to listen in and you really couldn't hear them. Basically just barking into the megaphone something heartfelt about the white race being the best and nationalist right bs that only his fellows could hear. Oh how their several flags were dancing in the wind. It was.. a special moment, minus a lynching or mob beating at the end.

As we left with a throng of police forming a path (it was entirely peaceful -- these were a bunch of annoying goth looking kids), they had video cameras filming us to document it, maybe to identify potential protestors. It was.. extra, these were no terdists. They heckled the pro-Israel, positive group arguably bigger than theres with pro-Palestinian comments a few times. They weren't hurting anyone, dancing in circles with israeli and rainbow flags. It was at the end of the pre-OMG LGBT and pre-smartphone age.

Clarence Thomas will keep voting conservative. I don't know what the news is there.

Clarence Thomas is also compassionate. Last week, he kept Ruth Bader Ginsburg from falling down the steps when a court session ended.

It's different isn't it, kind of puzzling with the level of rhetoric, hate, mud throwing nonsense that's so prevalent. I could wish literal death upon her by falling, breaking more ribs at her old age and dying miserably in a fox news article commentary and get several likes, maybe some enthusiastic replies trying to share my moment of being loved by the people.

But no, the people that actually do these jobs see and respect each other as colleagues. Same for Senators and the like. Trump would go out of his way to protect and defend Nancy Pelosi if something absurd against her happened. They talk mean, spin and make moves but would choose each other over any of their biggest supporters or fans if it came down to it. They'd be in the same bunker sharing pleasentries.

Maybe he can get their vote by promising $800 @ week for everyone who isn't working.

Both sides may claim the sky is falling. But only democrats will tell you they spent $30 million on scientific research and they can show you the impact craters where it has already started happening. But then they never do...
