Yesterday, Kamala Harris mentioned that it's unfair that "young men of color" who are felons, can't reap the rewards of the "legal marijuana industry." She goes on to state that their felony convictions shouldn't prevent them from gaining employment in an industry, because “they were ahead of the curve” when they were caught and convicted of selling pot illegally. Why doesn't she mention women, or white men, Asians and Latinos, who were also arrested and jailed for illegally selling marijuana? Don't they deserve a job in the pot industry too?

“A lot of the people who were arrested for marijuana sales were young men, young men of color,” Harris said.

“Isn’t that the irony of it all, that now this is one of the fastest growing money-making industries in our country,” she continued. “The very young men who were trying to make money doing the same thing, but got criminalized and have been branded felons for life are excluded from the economic opportunities that are now available because of this new industry.”

“Some of those young men should be first in line to get the jobs that are available,” Harris said. “Their felony convictions should not be the barrier to them having employment in an industry they were a part of before it was an industry.”

“They were ahead of the curve, she added

This is a weird example of an “entitlement mentality.” So, qualified people, who are applying for jobs in the marijuana industry, with no criminal record, should just step aside for young black felons, because these criminals have prior experience in the pot trade. I shouldn't be surprised by this, after all, some Democratic candidates are pushing for voting rights for incarcerated felons...rapists, murderers and terrorists, like the Boston Marathon bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Harris' views are puzzling, because as the former attorney general of California, she made it a crime for kids who arrived late to school, which impacted low income black and Latino families and also supported the death penalty. Is she now getting "soft" because of her presidency run, or is it because she'll say or do anything that improves her image?

She’s running for president as a progressive, but as attorney general of California, she criminalized truancy — making it a crime for kids to be late for school and dragging into the criminal justice system even more disproportionately low-income, predominantly black and Latino families. She’s overlooked the misconduct of her prosecutors and fought to uphold their wrongfully secured convictions. She defended California’s choice to deny gender reassignment surgery to a transgender inmate, and in 2014, she appealed a federal judge’s holding that the death penalty was unconstitutional.

I"ll have the popcorn ready when the first sanctioned Democratic candidate debates takes place in late June. Should be very entertaining to watch. Will there be a voice of reason and common sense at these debates? I doubt it. Most of these candidates back a Socialist agenda, with some supporting “Medicare for All,” or the “Green New Deal,” and "forgiving" student debt, even though loan forgiveness would burden taxpayers. With our national debt climbing past $22 Trillion Dollars, I don't believe the Dim's progressive tax proposals are going to be able to cover the cost for all their fairy tale ideas.

The more she talks, the sooner she will be announcing her withdrawal from the Campaign 😎

Well, it seems she can't sleep her way any further to the top so she's pandering to the lowest-information voters.

Yea.... she's toast as a candidate already but as the OP states, the Democratic primaries are going to be holy chit interesting to watch.

Comedy Central should sponsor them.

I'm waiting for them with a supply of popcorn as well.

I find it humorous that the fact that they formed a plan to break the law is "got criminalized". As if a meteorite fell upon them from out of the clear blue sky.

Do fat people "get gravitationally challenged"?

Combat hardened soldiers "get violenced"?

I mean sure, if she wants to argue that were basically unconventional capitalists, I get it. But she seems to think that the laws of the USA are not congruent with good and bad acts. And yet she was a prosecutor for a living...

A prosecutor that made a living on sending people with drug-related offenses to jail.

So the irony here is multi-leveled..

Does Kamala Harris have any relation to Melissa Harris Perry? Just curious... as they’re both complete and utterly stupid.

Convicted hackers get plum jobs in government intelligence agencies. So I sorta see where Kamala's head is at. Speaking of head, is she still for legalizing prostitution nationwide?

Don’t quite see your point. A hacker is at least skilled at a skill set that’s useful to government. What can a pot head do aside from smoke more weed and suggest a great munchie to follow?

Sure, but priority will be given to convicted rapists.

That's an incredibly ignorant statement.

Anyhow, I fall into the category that the article discusses, bar my skin tone.

I've spent years campaigning for cannabis law reform in my area, successfully, and my government is in the process of drawing up licences for cultivation.

Even though I was somewhat instrumental in bringing the plant into the legal sphere, which will generate millions for individuals, investors and the government alike, I'm unable to be employed in the cannabis cultivation sector precisely because I have experience.

Stupid is as stupid does.

So just handling a product means your ahead of the game? Not to mention mostly handling the low end product that's why rappers were talking about that reggie and swag with the stems and seeds. That's why so many smoked big blunts sometimes laced. Most of them sold press that came across the border which amazingly isnt around much anymore due to the legalization efforts.

All legal here in Michigan but they keep changing the rules and no they took a bunch of licenses away because they can I guess. And at this time they are trying to repeal what the voters voted in. The dims in charge want more control and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I'm wondering if she understands that MJ is illegal federally and not in her state. Hence the federal crimes of MJ.

One would think, she would push for the legalization of it federally first. That could also include clearing the charges of these people.

But that would be smart...

I heard gangbangers were ahead of the curve on low cost private security training. Bank robbers ahead of the curve on wealth redistribution schemes. Confidence men ahead of the curve on selling carbon credit tickets to offset energy costs of doing business. Prostitutes ahead of the curve on political campaigning...

Personally I'm ok with this concept, as long as the only charges they have are marijuana related. If there are any other offenses, such as other drugs, violence, thievery, etc......then I say no. They were not ahead of their curve, they were just bad people.

I'm a firm believer in the legalization of marijuana and I think it's complete B.S. that many peoples lives were ruined over pot. I understand the concept of it being illegal at the time that many people will say, but that's just one of those things that never should've been illegal in the first place.

So, yeah, as long as the only charges on their record is marijuana related then I'd be ok with that. Any other charges and nope nope nope.
