An Unfortunate Misunderstanding

I just got into town when I was welcomed by a lady in a long gingham dress, "Oh, you're new here. Lucky for you the whole town is going out to the Sandovil farm for a barn raising tomorrow. You can come too and meet everybody at once. We're going to have a big feast afterwards."

She was so excited about it, "Of course, I'd be happy to. I've never been to a barn razing."

I must have slept later than everyone else, because the town seemed deserted. I never would have found the Sandovil farm if the same lady hadn't ridden up in a wagon holding a big bowl of potato salad. "You're late. Jump in, I'll drive you out there."

When we got there, I was very surprised to see that the people were already starting to eat, and the barn was still standing. So I assumed it was some kind of local cultural tradition to allow the newcomer first crack at the barn.

I made a pile against a corner of the barn of some shingles I saw scattered around. Then struck a match to it. The shingles went up quickly, and the wood walls were just starting to catch when all the townspeople rushed at me howling. "What are you doing?!!!"

"Razing the barn."

"What, the barn is already raised. We put it up today."

Then I understood.

I helped them put the fire out. But I guessed that they wouldn't be very happy to see me in that town again.

It really was just an unfortunate misunderstanding though.

Ooops lol

"Wait time," which allowed for nice, thoughtful silences in class, was definitely something I had to will of myself as a teacher and I suppose it would be a decent lesson to apply to life as well.

Hope you are having a good one!!

That's embarrassing. What I meant was: When a Homonym is also an Antonym
But technically it would be: When a Homophone is also an Antonym

No need for embarrassment among friends.

And (lol) I didn't even notice so I'll share a bit of the unnecessary shame with ya.
