Seattle has made Russell wilson the highest paid nfl player passing Aaron Roger's with a 4 years $140 million contract.
$35 million a year with a $65 million signing bonus.

I like Russell but I think they just overpaid him considerably.
Wilson made a mistake in my opinion by signing such a big contract. Well if he wants to win he made a mistake but when they lose every year he will wipe away the tears with benjamin's.

The salary cap in the nfl is $188 million and he just took 20% of that cap leaving $153 million to spend on the remaining 52 players on the roster or $2.9 million each.

They will not have much money to spare for free agency now.
As a comparison tom brady with 6 rings gets paid $14 million allowing his team to spend more to surround him with better players.

Seattle will need to draft well to compete in their division.
Maybe wilson figured he wasnt going to beat the rams or 49ers the next few years anyway and just cashed in....hmmm

He's not worth it. I think 7 really good offensive linemen are way more valuable. Quarterback is important but the OL is more important in my opinion.

Yeah, I wonder if QBs are over rated in general... I mean I'd rather have a better than average players at all the other positions than just one super star QB. I mean if the receivers can't catch worth sh*t or the defensive line is weak, what good is a great QB?

No o-line, no qb. No qb, no receivers. Bad business on the owner’s part. Good for Wilson though. Make that money, then retire. Any post season bonuses are going to be hard to get.

You definitely have to protect the quarterback. Ask Andrew luck.

But you dont win superbowls often today without good quarterbacks.
QBs are the most important position in the nfl followed by head coach.

The argument I've heard is without a great offensive line your team will not be able to develop a great quarterback.

plenty of winning teams won more Superbows with a running game than passing.

i don't think QBs are the mist important position. id say headcoach then good running back good receivers then quarterbacks.

but Wilson is overrated and not worth that much

Even a great offensive line cant make a quarterback great.
But they can keep him from getting killed.

Not in the last decade or more.
The game has been changed to help passing.

Look at the last 15 superbowl winners. Only one or two of the winning quarterbacks will not be in the hall of fame.

Rules have changed in the past 10 years so it's extremely difficult to do that. It used to be defenses won Rings, now it's usually offenses, specifically ones with a strong passing game.

The Aaron Rodgers thing (and now Russel Wilson) made me think.

I totally agree if you want a better football team, money could be spent better. No doubt. However, this is the NFL.

The NFL is about personalities. People tune in to watch those personalities. Or buy their jersey.

It only make sense if the latter was the priority over an all around solid team.
