Hot Linking and how not too.

Earlier today on a thread about Norway lights, I provided 2 links on thus subject. The MOD was kind enough to redo the links I provided so it wasn't a direct or "Hot Link" if you will (so I'm guessing as it cost ATS money).. it's an important necessity and understood

I did not get dinged on it as the nice mod made the necessary changes... however I've been here since 2013 and have no idea how to link a source without having to do so directly.

Yes it's always stated contact the MOD that made changes, but in this case there's no beef and more a thanks. I got no mail... I think anyone with an understanding of ATS can answer this silly question of mine so I can correctly do it in the future. Hence hoping anybody could tutorial.

How is it done to not hotlink? When I link something, how do I take the precautions to correctly link a source...
I generally copy paste from the www http address above..

Did you paste your link into the post text field or use the "insert content from a news source" button above the post text field?

I know what hotlinking a pic is. Not sure what a hot link, link is though.

I remember a couple years back the owner's put up a thread on it.. I've had content removed long ago for doing it without actually understanding how to not do so. That's why I believe I have done again unintentionally. But would like to learn how not to.

I always use the "insert content from a news source" button or the "insert content from a external source" button. Not sure the T&C's say you have to, but it does look better that way.

ETA: Above the field were you are typing your post into are buttons, if you hover the mouse over them you can find the right button.

use ex for external quotes

use ats for images
