Inside the doors and past
the checkout lines he stops;
stunned by aisle after aisle
of cans, boxes, and cartons.

While far away in another land
the bombs destroy trucks
carrying wheat for the hungry.

He sees this in his mind
while stumbling out again.

Then many years of knowing.

Survivors guilt ... but not in the present moment ... survivors guilt ... in the future ... a new psychological condition ... bravo Freud!

Actually a past event in a Costco Dec. 2001.

Could be seen as future too, as you evidently have.
Post Apocalyptic:

----------
In the remains of a library
pages flapping in the wind
DSM-5
He flips to the appropriate section
scribbles in Scroungers Guilt
then stumbles on
a dry cackle breaks from his cracked lips.

Could it have something to do with 9/11? I'm totally hoping it does.

Dunno.. I entirely related to it when I came back from a three year overseas tour and walked into a Wal-Mart.

Then lived on the streets for awhile because I couldn't deal with stuff yet.

People can read something and come to entirely different (mind pictures?) of the story based on their reality.

I enjoyed it... thank you.

You're welcome

How do you react when told "Thank you for your service."

I don't react well to it myself.

I absolutely hate it.

To me it's insulting on a lot of levels.

You know what I'm talking about...
