Interesting spy story. I was going to a NSA crypto school in the San Fran vicinity in 88-89 and we were always warned about KGB agents recruiting Navy students and taught how to spot them. While attending school one guy in the administration office got caught and was sentenced to 20 yrs at Leavenworth. That was plenty to put the fear of God into me for the rest of my time there.

This was no ordinary FBI surveillance operation: The “acquaintance” Grishin referred to was himself an FBI agent—a man who, out of greed, desperation, and spite, had begun an affair with Ogorodnikov and agreed to sell classified information to the Soviet government. Eventually, this man—Richard W. Miller, a 47-year-old Los Angeles-based counterintelligence agent on the Bureau’s Soviet squad—would become the first FBI agent ever convicted of espionage.

And the man who would finally secure Miller’s conviction in 1990—after three trials over the course of six years—was a young U.S. attorney in Los Angeles: Adam Schiff.

“I learned a lot about Russian tradecraft: how the Russians operate, who they target, the vulnerabilities they look for,” Schiff recalls.

Something like 75% of their revenue comes from cable subscriptions. If you've cable, you paid for CNN. That's why their profitability is high even when viewership is low. I don't know about the Intl channel, but CNN continues to rake in the dough. They can afford to lose money on their expansion affiliates. Sadly.

IN A SECRET government agreement granted without approval or debate from lawmakers, the U.S. attorney general recently gave the National Counterterrorism Center sweeping new powers to store dossiers on U.S. citizens, even if they are not suspected of a crime, according to a news report.

Earlier this year, Attorney General Eric Holder granted the center the ability to copy entire government databases holding information on flight records, casino-employee lists, the names of Americans hosting foreign-exchange students and other data, and to store it for up to five years, even without suspicion that someone in the database has committed a crime, according to the Wall Street Journal, which broke the story.

Whereas previously the law prohibited the center from storing data compilations on U.S. citizens unless they were suspected of terrorist activity or were relevant to an ongoing terrorism investigation, the new powers give the center the ability to not only collect and store vast databases of information but also to trawl through and analyze it for suspicious patterns of behavior in order to uncover activity that could launch an investigation.

The changes granted by Holder would also allow databases containing information about U.S. citizens to be shared with foreign governments for their own analysis.

Now CTH has an article out that connects some dots to the IRS scandal with the quotes posted above.

It involved the U.S. Department of Justice under Eric Holder and the FBI under Robert Mueller. It never made sense why Eric Holder requested over 1 million tax records via CD ROM, until overlaying the timeline of the FISA abuse:

The IRS sent the FBI “21 disks constituting a 1.1 million page database of information from 501(c)(4) tax exempt organizations, to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.” The transaction occurred in October 2010 (link)

Why disks? Why send a stack of DISKS to the DOJ and FBI when there’s a pre-existing financial crimes unit within the IRS. All of the evidence within this sketchy operation came directly to the surface in spring 2012.

I believe that the National Counterterrorism Center was a cover for there ongoing use of the Hammer by Brennan, Clapper and Obama which has been addressed on here previously.

CTH has a different opinion and may well be right but I find it interesting that no one ever mentions the illegal Hammer operation Brennan, Clapper and Obama were running.

Still weighing it up on the data samples EMN:

1) For a small number of shortish posts it seems to be all,
2) Where one or more posts are longer then use either the 2 to 5 lines above or below the stringer - based on which has the more content. For example, something like Snow White tends to be near end of posts with only ra-ra stringers beneath; so in that case above stringer.
3) As to whether 2 or 5 lines above/below, it seems to be that you start with the row that has text in first post column!
4) I'm using empty cells as line breaks and Q-sigs in cells as paragraph breaks.

It may take some sampling to nail it down but it's difficult to discount how much of it makes sense when read L>R, top to bottom. Counterintuitive to what you'ld expect from a small sample from a large data set!
