A corporation cannot limit your freedoms nor does it have the monopoly on violence like the government. Corporations come from private citizens such as you and I. You’re on the wrong side.

For a bit of balance, the likes of Facebook host many sites that actively encourage teens to self harm, to go on extreme diets promoting anorexia and suicide. The industry has failed to do anything about the likes of this stuff. Any of you lot think it's OK for sites like that to exist?

There have been recent cases of teens committing suicide because of this stuff.

Yeah, yeah - I know - the UK is a Socialist Police State. I got your memo.

Zzzzzzz......

If you trust the government to tell you what you can and cannot watch online, I have a bridge to sell you.

Ha bloody ha. I am talking about children and teenagers, not adults, being exposed to evil sites that actively encourage self harm and suicide for instance. Or, is that OK with you? If the likes of Facebook had done something about this themselves this would not be necessary.

The proposal applies to everyone, not just children. Maybe better parenting would be more appropriate.

Of course it does. How else can you stop youngsters accessing this stuff? There can be no earthly reason for condoning these sites' existence.

Perhaps you might like to tell that to this poor girl's father?

Yep, I cannot understand why anyone wants the right to watch real rape and murder videos in the first place.
That seems odd to me, it wouldn't affect my life at all if accessing the net from the UK prevented me from viewing such things, so meh.

Yes. The interests and the safety of victims of these sites outweighs pretty much everything else.

A lot of it has to do with the suicide of Molly Russell. Her parents found that she was looking at disturbing images of self-harm on instagram. Her parents assumed (without evidence) that it was these images and instagram which lead to her suicide, and the UK government used it as an emotional appeal for internet regulation.

If this was your daughter, would you be in such a hurry to defend these sites? "Without evidence"? Good grief. Try learning more about this case. It caused a lot of public outcry over here and was very shocking for most folk who had no idea these sites existed, let alone that they were being actively promoted to vulnerable children via social media sites' algorithms.

You're the one pretending that instagram contributed to her suicide more than her parents.

Am I defending these sites? No. That's another lie on your part. And the appeals to emotion don't further your argument.

I'm defending civil liberties from encroaching censorship. Why are you in such a hurry to defend totalitarianism?

You think opposing government curation of the internet is the same as wanting a right to watch rape and murder videos. That's how backwards you guys are. You know little of human rights.

Are you familiar with this human right?

Article 19.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

And if youtube take those videos down, denying you the choice of watching individuals killing other individuals is that not also censorship?

If you get your kicks from watching what is effectively snuff movies then that's your business.

Yes, it would be censorship.

Your insinuation that I enjoy snuff films reflects badly on who you are as a person.

The fact that you admitted watching people graphically killing other people reflects a lot more on you than it does on me I'm afraid. Not quire sure why you think you can contort things to not make that watching snuff films.

More worried that watching all those snuff films has really fudged up your moral balance. I suppose you must become desensitised after a while.

Nope just think it is odd that you want the right to watch real rape and murder videos.
Good luck to you, it ain't your country so worry not, it won't affect you.
...and any censoring of that nature will not affect me either because I have no interest in watching such content.

It's odd you don't care or have any interest in human rights. That's insane, especially in this day and age.

I don't want the right to watch real rape and murder videos though, and don't worry, It's only affecting my country, you will remain free to watch such content in your nation.
I don't need you to fight for my rights, and I imagine most Brits will agree.
Different cultures is all, criticise ours as much as you like but it is odd you seem so concerned when it in no way impacts on your life.
