Our country is moving further and further to the right every year. The government portrayed in the TV series Colony is what our government is becoming or has become:

The common man exists to serve the economy. The economy serves the people in power. It's only going to get worse:

I think you should change Right to Left then it might make more sense, well to me anyways.
The colony had Authoritarian socialism.

I have no idea how someone took Right wing gov't from watching colony, I don't think anyone would consider the resistance/survivalist camps anything but analogous to patriotic right wing survivors trying to take back their freedom. Seriously, the world council -- since when was a one world gov't anything but a leftist dream.

If anything, that show was brilliant at putting forth a true "it's complicated" context when it came to who was right. It really depended on what you knew and what impacted you directly. Sad to see it end in spite of being profitable.

I think the government's red hat police had more power than citizens under its yoke. You would think when you use lofty words like socialism it would be a wee bit more egalitarian. The red hat sub-contractors were singular if their application of corporate policy.

A leftist dream would be more like the movie The Giver and not like Colony or Hunger Games. I would classify obedience to authority is more important in right wing dystopias. I would think right wing dystopias are marked by overly aggressive police forces trying to get the population to obey.

A left wing government would be trying to force corporations and producers to make their goods and services with less profits in order to serve the people. And a left wing government would try to give stronger rights and wages to laborers. I don't think the workers in Colony had any labor rights.

I have not read anything where Marx is saying a really STRONG police force keeping people in line was part of the deal.

I'll give you that. You can't have dreams of a communism utopia that get gritty with the public can you?

But we know of the millions and millions that paid the price of gaining that "utopia" starting with the Czar's family.

Both left wing and right governments do bad things.

We have a single centralized government that price fixes wages, products, and services in this country. We have a communistic type government. It's just NOT the type of communism that is in the worker's favor. What we have corporate communism. In the last 30 years what public policies have been passed that have helped the worker making the median wage? None.

George Carlin is right, there's a reason:

What do you call a government where all the public policies favor the billionaires and anything otherwise is quickly given derogatory labels?

No manner of government has EVER been as evil toward their of people as the major communistic governments.

There tons of facts to point that out. An authoritarian government MUST have that manner of control. And that methodology comes early even before they get power. The promises of utopia come from the end of a gun barrel as Chairman Mao said. In other words, fear usually is the driving force of communism, not brotherly love for one and all.

Exactly. I know of no right wing stance on a strong authoritarian govt or police force (maybe strong military). That is 100% left ideology highlighted by every communist/socialist regime ever. I guess some people literally live in delusion as to what their own party wants all the while busy buying into the propaganda carefully designed to get them there (Marxism etc.)

so going by the responses on this thread, as well as just generally in the last 6 months or so, basically what the Good People of ATS have to say is that if a government does stuff you like, it's right wing, but if they're bad that means they're left wing

is that

is that about the size of it?

It is more than pretty well accepted that socialism, communism, high government regulation, and one world authority/government AKA globalism are left-wing stances. Please feel free and contradict specifically.

There is plenty of bad on both sides, but the stances highlighted are what this thread is about. Colony is actually pretty complicated with respect to who is "right and wrong", but politically, the world-order group governing there can only be compared to the UN taking control. They literally have analogous colored hats/uniforms. I am pretty sure that is intentional.
