Wait...

So people would rather not allow these adverts to run, so that it logs them 'seeing' them and 'pays' ATS so they can continue to have free membership?

See that cake...you can't also eat it children.

Can't we just have a bake sale or something?

I appreciate that ATS needs to maximize income through advertizing. And I'm sure mgt. is aware of the trade of between frustration for members vs. enhanced revenue.

I've never purposefully clicked an ad here.

I don't have an ad blocker but wish I did.

Nothing against ATS or it's legitimate financial needs. Mgt uses ads to further their own in interests, and users avoid them for the sake of their own interests as well.

Sort of a negative market model. But it's the one we have. I don't think consumers can be blamed for avoiding what is distasteful.

Odium, only about one in 10,000 people have the skills to block ads to any extent. With the exception of the FireFox plug-in, of course. And it's express purpose is to stop Flash ads from "flashing". It freezes them, or removes them.

Advertisments that pop-up on the computer, do not come from whatever website is being visited. They come from an advertising agency. If people chose not to do business with those agencies, they have that choice.

The ads never bother me. Except when I come to log back onto ATS and a smiley thing pops up but it's easily remedied with the little red X. Some of the ads I actually like. The interactive ones where you're trying to squash a spider with the mouse, they're excellent.

They don't distract me at all, not even the big blinking ones. They're just a part of the back ground, like watching T.V while some other people are talking in the background.

Now here's a dilema, there's another new interactive ad at the top of the page. Do I try it out, or do I post this...?

I'd much rather have ads than have ATS membership cost.

HELP HELP the adds are taking over!
Massive spyware is being loaded on my computor!!!!!!!!!!!

NO JOKE! These TRIBALFUSION adds are popping up and causing the ATS page to go away, and whatever I was doing prior to ATS reappears.....I then must make the add go away and then I have to RELOAD ATS only to have this happen again.....and again.......and AGAIN........

TRIBALFUSION ADDS SUCK BIG TIME and are wrecking the ATS experiance for me!!!!!!!!!! make it stop!!!!!!!!!!! make it go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TRG* throws a genuine tantrum on the floor!!!!!!!

I always try and make sure I click an add or two so that ATS gets credit or however that works.....but having them blow my page away and gone is not ok...............its only been happening this last week......something NEW is not working out adwise..........running my spyware now is finding way to many CRITICAL problems than the norm for me, SOMETHING new here is not good at all...........I know it comes from HERE.........no other place it could possibly be coming from.........

NOT GOOD......not GOOD at all..........TRIBALFUSION is being a PROBLEM.

I have no problem with ads in general, even the animated ones if they're done right. What gets on my nerves are the flash adds that repeat endlessly and suck all the compute resources from my crap system.

The one with the frogs is the worst offender. (I remeber the frogs, but not what the ad is about, so it isn't even effective ). These adds are probably impacting board stats negatively, which of course reduces income from other adds.

I'm not complaining about the ads. Anything you guys need to reasonably do to keep me from paying for this site is understood and appreciated.
Seriously if you guys started charging a membership fee i'd pay it without reservation.....i'm an addict i can't leave

But

As long as i have been a member i've never gotten 'pop-ups' while logged in. Lately i have not only been getting them (tribal fusion) but about every other one opens my ie browser window and takes me to some online casino. Assumed it was on my end but figured i'd let ya'll know. [i have run my spware/virus detectors cleared cache and cookies]

Seriously, I think there may be a problem. In almost a year since I registered this is the first time I have been getting pop-ups/unders and it's been happening for around a week.

If we have them now fine, but if so, please say this is the case and I can quit wondering about it.

Pretty please???

I just got the firefox extension, and have completely killed all banner ads (I don't mind the sidebar ads as much, because often, at my screen resolution, I can't see them). It's done wonders for my migraines. Those damn "You've won a plasma screen" or X-box or whatever ads really did bad things for my migraines. They're gone now. I would only hope that ATS mods/admins see it fit to remove them for good, as I'm certain that we have many members prone to migraines and/or siesures that could be caused by these freaking obnoxious blinking ads that really should be BANNED permanently.

[edit - spelling - Yeah, I'm drunk.]

I told my husband, "Those flashing ads go straight to my migraine center." It's like if I looked at them for one second or looked at enough of them, I could feel a migraine coming on. I swear they tickle the same spot!

I don't have a problem at all with most of the ads. Just the flashy ones and I'm dealing with it.

Administrators and moderators, who have the power to disable the animation and flashing, should stare at the ads for a long time. Why shouldn't they endure what they expect of the users?

I never understood that term, why would anyone want a cake if you could not eat it?

Anyways ads dont bother me they keep ATS free, If we can put up with Lysergic's backrounds/avatars we can put up with a few flashing ad's

The actual saying is "You cannot eat your cake and have it, too" Meaning that once you eat it, it's gone, you no longer have it. Somehow the saying got convoluted into "You cannot have your cake and eat it, too." Which, of course, you can.

History of the saying

there has been a new one as of late advertising "FREE SCREEN SAVERS"

the annoying part is that it makes these "blip.......blip........blip" noises

damn annoying if you ask me

I can't even stay on ATS today.

There is an add on the right playing a bit of music singing "PLEASE CUM WITH ME" and its showing barley legal strippers pulling off their clothes, I swear you can SEE nipple, and they they are rubbing themselves between the legs

....the add wants me to come and meet these nasty girls LIVE RIGHT NOW!! ALL FREE!!!

I have turned down my sound...but the girls are still flashing me T & A and rubbing their crotches.
Oh and they are NOT animated...these are real human females.

How nice for a PG site

Well leaving the reloading seems to have made them leave they page.....YAY!

it was the noisiest add I have ever heard here and you did NOT need to run your mouse over the add for it to make noise it just started as soon as the page loaded and repeated over & over. & over &....
