Why Was Michael Avenatti Arrested? Stormy Daniels' Former Lawyer Accused of Trying to Extort Nike, Faces Charges in NY, LA

Michael Avenatti was charged with wire and bank fraud by federal authorities, CNBC reported on Monday, citing federal authorities.

The charges were filed by the Southern District of New York. Avenatti is accused of trying to extort Nike.

Authorities will be speaking about the charges in Los Angeles later on Monday, the report said.

The announcement of Avenatti's arrest followed shortly after the lawyer, who drew national attention for representing adult film star Stormy Daniels, posted on Twitter that he would be holding a press conference on Tuesday.

This is a developing story.

It could not have happened to a nicer person.

Someone should have told him he is not high enough in the Democratic party to be exempt from the law.

My thought -

MICHAEL AVENATTI: DONALD TRUMP KNOWS 'I'LL HAND HIM HIS ASS' IF HE TWEETS AT ME

"He can't handle a direct confrontation with me," Avenatti said. "He knows that I'll hand him his ass."

For this to happen today is IMO hilarious!

lol

He can take a lesson from his former client.

Then again given the 2 photos and the similarity he may have already gotten lessons for prison.

Avenatti pulled the wool over CNN's eyes, for over a year.

He (mistakenly) thought Nike was low-IQ stupid too.

His caliber is in keeping with many of the other Democrat candidates.
Too bad he won't be on the stage to take the limelight off the others.

The southern district of New York just destroyed avenatti in their press briefing. He is done.

I wish they would have not disclosed who was being indicted ahead of time.

Good! It's about time too.

I guess the ole dog was a useful idiot for those who needed
him, otherwise I think it would have happened much sooner.

It seems there are multiple dogs biting Avenatti's backside.

There’s More! Los Angeles Prosecutors Hit Michael Avenatti With Separate Federal Charges of Wire and Bank Fraud

1) He attempted to extort money from Nike by threatening to implicate them in some kind of college sports scandal.

2) He embezzled a client's money.

3) He obtained loans fraudulently by submitting phony tax returns.

How does that saying go? "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

His attempted attack on President Trump was pure folly. Did he think he would walk ? Daniels, did she think she would ? Just wait for Pelosi, it will be slightly more circuitous. AOC is also moving in that direction. President Trump has plenty of time for laundering the White House.

Well at least he didn't make onto the top ten list if dem contenders for pres?
For some reason I find this oh so funny! I promise I will give my most sincere apologies if it turns out he is innocent. But gee, there were some who really thought he was pres material and wants him to run. And it turns out it seems that might make Cohen look like a saint in comparison. Props to niki for alerting the feds so quickly and working with them.

This just keeps getting better.
It turns out Mark Geragos is the unnamed co-conspirator in the Avenatti criminal complaint.

Jussie Smulletts lawyer.

CNN

Geragos, who has represented a number of high profile clients including Chris Brown and Jussie Smollett, was a CNN contributor.

This keeps getting better and better.

i don;t think it is a coincidence that the DoJ moved in on Avenatti the first working day aftr Trump was completely exonorated of collusion and obstruction...

The offensive has started. Many more arrests to go - there is a whole cabal of conspirators that tried to take down a Presidency with lies. There can be zero complaints - the left investigated (and are investigating) every area of Trump, his family and his friends lives... every single one of the conspirators on the left deserve the same. Let's see how they like the scrutiny.

Creepy porn lawyer also shuffled money to and fro from his attorney-client trust fund(s). That seems like a small deal, but it should be the end of his license (along with being illegal in itself). That money is the client's and should always be separately accounted.

These guys are small potatoes. Completely expendable in the scheme of things. Who had ever heard of Avenatti before last year? They used him to advance a narrative, and they'll hang him out to dry.

I'm not at all convinced anyone up the chain will ever be held to account.
