It was a joke mate, you said ‘what a bell end’ as in the diver whipped out his tackle in the cramped dark space, wow, what a bell end.

Not just their life and the life of the diver they were with, but the lives of those behind them too. Think about it.

The whole thing was incredibly precise. What if the two of them die and jam up the tunnel blocking it? Then the next pair dies because they can't get around that pair. Now you possibly have four bodies blocking the path, and you have to get them out or lose all the rest behind them.
