I know this may sound crazy but there is a way the popular vote could work.

but to do so would require the following.

1. VOTER ID

2. Yearly (before any elections) purges of voter roles of those who died, felons, moved, incorrectly filled out, ect.

3. ALL VOTER LAWS ENFORCED STRICTLY..
For example.
You moved but didnt update your voter registration before the deadline.... sorry but you cant vote.
A county didnt turn in their counts on time... sorry your numbers are void.
someone dresses in miltary type clothing, has batons , and in force stands outside of polling place... sorry you move or arrested ON THE SPOT.
you get the idea.

4. NO REPORTING OF VOTES UNTIL ALL POLLS CLOSE (minimum) and all VERIFIED.

in short the above REQUIRED for popular vote to work.

but sadly most (maybe all but cant confirm anything on reporting results until all verified) have been fought TOOTH AND NAIL by the liberals and democrats.

In ironic FACT of democratic hypocrisy when trumps win was challenged in WI and PA it was stopped because it was FOUND DUE TO ERRORS (fraud maybe?) that trump GOT MORE VOTES THAN REPORTED.

but when trump wanted THE SAME THING IN CA where he lost.... the democrats fought it tooth and nail.

the electoral college (wither planned by the founders or not) have the added benefit of a LIMITED built in counter to fraud and corruption.

Wisdom of democrats:

Tear everything apart that the constitution declares.
Punish all law abiding people for what criminals do, let the criminals go free.
Etc.
The rest would fill a horror novel.

Actually then, given your edit, is there not a case that reform could actually be something to pursue - to restore more to its' original purpose?

Possibly a bad idea as we all know politicians can't help themselves......give them an inch and all that......

I think repealing the 17th Amendment and returning the Senate selection to State control would be great.

Not so sure about the 12th Amendment and the runner up, though it would make for excellent political theater.

Would also make assassinations more likely IMO.

There they go again. Proving that this nation was truly created by geniuses only to be ran by idiots. There is a lot of 'wisdom' in mob rule. Of course O' Dirt Eater isn't alone. Harris,Warr en,Cohen all agree with this stupidity.

Tuesday on MSNBC, Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke was asked about his rival Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) call to abolishing the Electoral College for presidential elections in favor of a national popular vote.

Yay mob rule!

By the power of 'Regenerative' Dirt.

You will comply.

Can't win the legal way.

Change the rules.

The Electoral College made sense when we were thirteen colonies. It makes ZERO sense in America of today.

Hillary Clinton would have been a horrible President, but that does not change logic. If the majority of America wanted her to be our leader (and they did), she should have been elected our leader. The entirety of the Constitution is based on the premise of "Minority rights, majority rule". As long as the majority does not infringe on the rights of the minority, then all is good.

The majority voted for Hillary. Bad decision? Probably. Should it have been upheld? Only if you believe in the Constitution.

It makes even more sense today.

The term "United States" is key to uderstanding our form of government.

The President, is the president of a group of independent states, not of the individual ppl.

An inaccurate analogy would be the president of the EU.

Look at the technical rules for awarding electoral votes, and the intent becomes clear.

You may not like our form of government, but at least learn enough about the structure to not misrepresent what it acually is. It is not a democracy. It is a representative republic.

If you want to change the Constitution, there exists a remedy. Is it difficult to do? Absolutely, that was intentional.

Nancy Pelosi and other democrats insist that we URGENTLY need a path to citizenship for millions of illegals (obviously so they can vote legally)

Democrats want to lower the voting age to 16

Democrats want to abolish the electoral college (so the majority of red states won't count in presidential elections)

If you can't win the game, change the rules... by any means necessary!

At least they aren't hiding their desperation anymore!

Whenever you hear a politician refer to America as a “democracy,” they’re showing their ignorance of our founding. The Founding Fathers created a republic — loosely translated to mean “the public things,” or “the laws” — instead of a democracy where the majority rules. In short, our Constitution ensures a government of laws and not of men, a republic and not a democracy.

A nation of laws, not of men.

I'm still convinced that the NPV won't survive its first election. Swing states change all the time. All it will take is for one 'unexpected swing state' or 'bellweather state' to change direction and the citizens who voted for Candidate A over B will be breaking down the doors of the state government to undo the mistake they made.

Imagine how the supposed Blue Wall states of 2016 who voted majority Trump would have reacted if they were told their historical votes had been nullified by people in the cities of California?

Another plan democrats got is raising amount of supreme court justices. To 15 with 5 jackasses and 5 elephants a 5 more picked by Congress . They just upset because Trump appointed 2 justices and if Ginsberg retires or passes they fear he might appoint a third good help them if he gets a second term gets to appoint 2 more.

You keep tellin yourself that.
The ONLY reason this is an issue is because she lost.
PERIOD.
The ec was just fine for the dems before that.

Had the dems run a decent candidate this would not even be spoken of.
Similar to the stupid idea to change the number of justices on the scotus.

When the dems cant win they change the rules.
It is in honor of Harry Reid.

Nothing new here....

This article is from 2000.

BUSH SET TO FIGHT AN ELECTORAL COLLEGE LOSS

The core of the emerging Bush strategy assumes a popular uprising, stoked by the Bushies themselves, of course. In league with the campaign - which is preparing talking points about the Electoral College's essential unfairness

Maybe the electoral college does need an overhaul...

Generally, these electors are not legally bound to support the person they're supposedly pledged to when they gather in the various state capitals to cast their ballots on Dec. 18.

Republicans are acting like this amounts to treason. If it’s treason, they were ready to commit treason nineteen years ago if they thought it would benefit them.

Meh... I don't think it's O'Rourke that the GOP needs to worry about anyway...

Well that's just stupid...

He's from El Paso. Beto is a nickname for given names Alberto, Albertino, Berthony, Heriberto, Norberto, Roberto or Humberto. He's had the nickname since he was a kid.

ETA - This site sucks so bad now. All the pop up ads and performance issues. I remember now why I haven't been posting here. C-Ya!

You are literally just making stuff up because you dont actually have any idea what you are talking about. The Democrats have been pointing out the stupidity of the EC for many years. Just because you ignored politics until your favorite reality tv star became president doesnt mean they didnt exist.

Here we go... another authoritarian left-winger who can't stand a country being different than others...

The U.S. wasn't funded to be a cookie cutter copy of any other country...

What YOU call a terrible system is how Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, was elected as POTUS, and because of him and other Republicans slavery was abolished...

BTW, learn to make an educated argument. Insulting the op because his views are different than yours doesn't make you educated. It makes YOU what you accuse the OP of being...
