Yeah, a few big cities, cities that do not grow or process the foods, will be enslaving all the people who do that kind of stuff. They will control the people who work for a living processing fuels for their vehicles and to heat their homes.

Beto seems to be a moron, supporting the entitled. You do not have to be rich to be entitled. Everyone should be forced to go on a farm for a week when they go to school, they will appreciate the food on their tables more and maybe forty percent of the food in this country would not be wasted after that.

???

Many farms use robots and automated machines to harvest now. Pretty soon they all will. Welcome to the future man, country living is a thing of the past, get with the times.

We got lots of little farms here, most of them do not have any fancy robotics or automated harvesting equipment. Maybe the bigger maple syrup makers use pumping stations and I suppose there are some blueberry shakers out there, but here it is mostly low tech harvesting yet. There are no big factory farms here, most pick the stuff by hand. These smaller farms dot our nation, it is not always huge farms with high technology industrial machinery

It sure would suck to have the candidate who gets the most votes NOT win the election...

I dont understand the GOP and conservatives fear of ending the EC. Thats a lie.. it would be the end of the GOP and conservatives from ever winning the presidency... but outside of that, it isnt "MOB RULE" and here is why...

The office of the President is the head of only 1 branch, of the 3 in our existing government. The president represents the country as a WHOLE, not individual regions/states/counties. Because of this.. it would make sense to use a popular vote for the office of the president because if he/she is to represent the whole country, how is it valid if more than half the country vote against him and he/she still wins?

When you say country do you mean 50 United States formed into a union with each State having their own independents and equal share of that union? Each State has equal shares in the Senate, and each State has shares in the House based on population, AND each State has shares on who will be president based on both the 2 Senate votes per State and the House population votes.

The President doesn't represent "the country" he represents 50 united states and it is those states that vote him into office.

If you want democracy type country go live in France...

You don't get that since the 1700's, the normal citizens of this country haven't wanted the biggest state(s) deciding the election for everybody? Without CA, Trump wins the popular vote in 49 states. What kind of sense would it make to let CA be the deciding factor in our elections? That's the entire purpose behind the electoral vote and why the founding fathers wrote it in. That was back when a 13 year old boy had more backbone and less fear than a 40 year old man today.

See you keep looking at this from a "state" perspective, and thats the disconnect.

The divide in this country used to be closer to riding state lines. It isnt like that anymore, the times and our population has changed.

The political divide in this country is Urban vs Rural no matter where you live.

Conservatives and GOP members here seem to keep repeating "It would be California vs ruling the rest of the country"

Thats not really the case at all... yes California has a massive population and yes they are pretty Left wing.. but.. then again.. they have voted for republican governors no?

Also..

New York
Chicago
Houston
Philly
Phoenix
Dallas
Miami
Boston
Cleveland
St. Louis
Albuquerque
Denver
Las Vegas
New Orleans

They are all blue.. and they arent in california.. even republican states have large dem populations

California has over 10,000,000 votes coming in. The states in the rust belt are lucky to get a few hundred thousand. It makes a huge difference. CA already has a hand up.

The EC is a lot harder to hack/rig compared to voting machines.

Second verse same as the first verse.

What is Diebold in Ohio and Florida during the 2000 election?

What is Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin in 2016?

As you can see doing both gets you wins which is I think way GOP is going so hard to demonize this idea.

This idea only comes up when the democrats lose the election. It very fair when they win.

When was the last time Democrats won the electoral college and not the popular vote? Might have something to do with that fact.

PS: the answer is 1876.

Sure change it so that every county in America equals one vote, you have to win 50% of all counties plus 1 to win the general.
That is fair so that everybody has an equal say.

Looks at last election map

Now why would we ever allow these little smatterings of blue to control the entire country ?
Because that is what they are asking for.

That's where ppl go wrong. IMO, having actually read many of the federalist papers, the EC was as much about state sovereignty, as it was about "mob rule"

The country was set up as a "union" of individual states, with a federal government the was purposely limited in power.

In the view of our very wise founding fathers, states rights were as important as the federal government, if not more so.

Civics, and government are not taught in high school the way they once were. The importance of the constitution is not stressed, as it once was.

Its a shame, really

they want to lower the voting age to 16 and abolish the Electoral College

now think of what will happen to your country if they do it

Because 16 is the perfect age to exploit idealists.

On a side note, I wonder how many child stars would have come forward in the #metoo movement if they had been allowed..

Because lots of people live there in those blue dots. It is why GOP supporters keep pulling out this map it makes is seem like there are more of them and less DEMs.

There's a lot of wisdom in it, if you're trying to bring the story of the Hunger Games to life. Can't wait to watch the "districts" rise up against the big cities.

The big states like CA cry because they think they don't have a voice even though they have more electoral votes than any other state. Their solution is to take away the voice of over half of the states in America. That's a clear cut example of bullying, something else the left claims Republicans do.

The problem is that folks don't understand that we the people don't actually elect the president, the states elect the president. Nor do they understand that we don't have one big election but rather 50 small ones--each of which IS decided by the popular vote.

Once upon a time I was a young, idealistic, ignorant democrat voter who thought the EC was stupid too (years ago). But when someone explained to me how elections really work, as above, it all made perfect sense.

Over populated crammed areas are not the problem of the entire Nation.

The cramming seems to be primarily in Democrat pockets.

Ripe for exploitation 😎

The electoral college does not makes sense any more and the only reason republicans are super desperate to keep it because they would rarely win elections with the popular vote. It's dumb. The electoral college assures that people's votes do not count unless they are in swing states. If you live in a blue/red state, you might as well not bother voting. It's no surprise that half the country doesn't vote. A popular vote for president of the entire country makes sense to count every individual vote as an individual vote, not to water it down based on the size of the land mass in a state. That way people actually have the power instead of land mass. I can't believe anybody would actually support keeping the electoral college. It is the single biggest problem with our election system.

LMAO at comparing that to mob rule. It only applies to electing 2 people. What a joke. It doesn't suddenly turn policy making into mob rule. Slippery slope fallacy as always. Conservatives live off that fallacy.

Two sheep and one wolf and we can have a safe democracy. Two wolves and one sheep, it is over for the sheep. How do we protect people from the cheating wolves? NOT with a democracy. We want to change the COTUS we need a Convention to do just that.

You can talk all you won't but the COTUS is solid on WHY we need it. LA and NY can tell the whole country what to do if it is a democracy.

I am a Ron Paul Libertarian and not an R. I am loaning my vote to the best candidates. Who currently are R at the moment.
