Ill agree to disagree because snl used to be jokes but the cast members in the past were not as vocal about politics outside of the show. I will extend that during previous administrations the president was not ridiculed by mainstream media to this extent in addition to these "jokes" which makes it exhausting to sit through an episode of any show in present time.

Its not unique or clever...I think exhausting is a good word here...

Trump is nothing but a joke, so you can't blame comedians for going after him, he makes it too easy.

Majority of America and world finds him to be nothing but a clown yet his Trumpaloopas think he is somehow going to win the election again. Is the FBI planning on helping him again? Are the Trumpaloopas expecting massive fraud from their side?

What exactly makes them think he is going to win again?

the problem of these so called comedians is they don't like it when the victim finally has enough and fights back any body dems or republicans can get enough of this sarcasm in the name of comedy

I thought the same thing. Did we finally find something the MAGA folks can't or won't defend.

He is perhaps the most fragile snowflake in this nation.

I read an article a couple of days ago that said SNL was going to start beginning every episode with a presidential trigger warning. Could've been satire. Hard to tell these days.

"I'll vote for him so long as he keeps triggering teh lib'raulz"

If they were lies he could sue. All he ever does is yell that they are lies but does nothing about it.

Ya gotta wonder why...

Last protest I was in was against the Vietnam war and I didn't have kids yet.
Not sure how that fits this conversation about trump being triggered by a SNL skit.
Perhaps you'll bring it back around so I can connect the two.
Thanks

IDK I've been watching since the eighties and its always been political. Something political in every show every week. I dont see whats different.
I think some folks are just taking this all a little too personally but SNL is not different.

Side question: Is the fact that he cares about his reputation
really a negative for him? Doesn't everybody want a good reputation? Can some on the left at least admit he's gotten nothing but bad press from certain outlets ever since he got the nomination, let alone the actual presidency?

Yes, I see that he has gotten a lot of bad press from all around, but hasn't he brought on lot of that himself? From what I have seen from day one of run, he has made it about himself, put himself up as ''the only one'' who can turn things around and stuff. He gleefully alienated people purposely

Unlike most other candidates I have seen from the past he based his campaign on not only improving DC politics but more, making it out to be rotten to the core. Others in the past have gone to radical positions, both left and right, but none had risen to the prominence in one of the two major parties. Others could only make their rants from minor third, fourth and fifth type parties. Trump made it all about himself from the beginning by setting himself up, in a way, like a savior.

He IS unlike anyone else in the last hundred years to gain that position. And of course there would be plenty of scrutiny.

Of course he cares, it's about him. People don't like being joked about, and I'm sure after more than 2 solid years it gets very old. This is exactly what he says at his rallies in about 45 seconds.

But why would he not have expected this to happen. One, that is how he set out to win the debates, by making fun at other peoples expense. He jabbed at physical appearance and mimicked others mannerisms. He made up derogatory names for his opponents and used them widely and continuously.

And two, he set out, according to him and his supporters, to take back control from the powers that be, to essentially make himself out to be the spearhead of a return to greatness, to drain the swamp to take on the entrenched power structure of at least the last hundred years.

If, indeed, he was or is a threat to all of that entrenched power would he not expect what is happening to him? Would he not expect to have the same tools he used so frequently, used against himself?

I think he did not expect it. He was the captain of a large business conglomerate. He ran his company by the rule, my way or the highway. Its not surprising that he had never heard criticism from withing his ranks,no one would dare. He became president expecting everyone to just fall in line because he was the ''big boss'', but they haven't.

And there certainly is the appearance that he is not up to receiving the same kind of ridicule that he dishes out.

I remember one time I was in DC and went to comedy club, and the comedian pick me out of the crowd to put his jokes on and I didn't think it was very funny and that was a few minutes. I wonder how I would feel if the guy did it non-stop for over two years.

Can you prove that it is in fact donald typing those tweets?

In another thread it was shown that tweets on his twitter went out during times he was speaking at rallies.

So at least sometimes the tweets on @therealdonaldtrump are not done by the real donald trump.

That is a fair enough attempt at explaining that rant over the weekend.Yes, we know that he is not the only one who uses his twitter feed. But that is where that explanation falls flat.

He is potus and it is his twitter account, and early on in his presidency it was touted by his official spokesman as a public voice of the president, that the words that came from it were the substance of his positions.

So, under that scenario, that it was not really him, just who is it that got a hold of the presidents twitter feed and let out with that seemingly drifty rant? Just who? A random janitor? Maybe some hippie kid snuck in and did it? Nope, if it was not him, it was someone close to him don't you figure? And if it was, how is it that he has not recognized it pu lically and fired that person? No, that explanation creates more questions than it answers.

Always had a little bit of politics on snl indeed. Norm macdonald as bob dole for instance. I think comedy was a great way to take a serious subject and make it funny to get people comfortable with discussing the matter. That is no longer what i see in this pc culture however. How would the world respond if Darrel Hammond did black-face jesse Jackson today? People would lose their # claiming that darrell hammond is an insensitive bigot and lorne michaels is racist for not hiring a black conedian for jesse jackson jokes. That one jerkoff pete davidson "joked" about dan crenshaw in a very disrespectful sketch in november which frankly was not funny at all. Lets get down to brass tacks. SNL is no longer allowed to be funny and the show has evolved into a politically driven pile of crap.

I agree with you completely...but he beat Hillary. Didn't see that coming. Could it happen again? I think it's possible, but unlikely. Especially if Beto wins the primary. Beto's an idiot, but seems to me the hotter candidate always wins.

Then again, we're witnessing the grossest conspiracy theory ever- the POTUS is possibly a Russian pawn and or white collar mafia don-- and all the former critical thinkers are shouting "Winning!" "Fake news!" "But Hillary!" "Snowflakes!" "Muslim and Mexican terrorists!" Could this creed of incomplete sentences win him another 4 years?

Back to topic:
SNL hasn't been truly funny in years. Matt Damon as Kavanaugh is funny. Baldwin and DeNiro are killing it. But what is really, really funny is Trump getting his shorts in a bind over SNL. And the MAGA crowd, thus far, hasn't really tried to defend it.

He has, however, in my opinion, screwed the pooch on most military/security calls he's made.

Like what?

but he disregards the knowledge of people like Mattis or others who have actually BEEN there and have real-world experience. That's worse in my opinion and as those things started piling up, that's when I regretted voting for him.

Kennedy went against his whole military in not attacking the Russians over Cuba..do you think he was wrong in doing so? Trump does work on his campaign promises its like his #1 priority and you suggest he isn't? lol One of Trump's promises was to get out of our wars...campaign promise, like what people voted him to do...

Comparing Russia/Cuba during the Cold War to the GWoT is ridiculous - on so many levels. I think you're smart enough to know that.

It's his #1 priority? I see. Well, actually I don't.

I listed the few things he's broken even on or had some success (with the caveats I listed).

I seem to remember a whole bunch of people chanting about locking some woman up, Mexico handing over some cash for a wall somewhere and a literal # ton of other stuff at his rallies when prompted by Trump... None of which he's come through on.

Working on it? Right.

If I told my boss I'd get something done and it took me 2 years, there'd be issues. Especially if that whole time I had basically been undercutting my ability to do that job by pissing everyone off, acting like an idiot and and having a revolving door policy for my support staff.

You need to understand, for me to be saying crap like this is a big deal. I know you don't know me, but I am the furthest from a liberal you'll find. I f'ing voted for Trump. So, you're not talking to some stupid socialist screaming at the sky or crying because RUSSIA!

Unfortunately, I spent a big part of the past 20 years actually getting stuff done in places like Afghanistan, learning first-hand what's really going on there and elsewhere. So, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I have a pretty decent grasp of the situation. Trump doesn't and, I'm sorry, but it doesn't seem like you do either. What's worse? Trump doesn't even know he doesn't know! And, he fires the people who do know.

...and you track with that crap?

If so, I guess you're entitled to your opinion. I was only saying it's been too much for me.

Really? Fighting a country less enemy that we pick and choose as to who is bad or not? After 18 years and trillions are we winning? Can there EVER be an end to this type of war...ever?

Name something that he hasn't put effort into? Because Congress and liberal judges might push back doesn't count as suggesting he is not working on his list of promises.

I want it ALL and I want it NOW... Once again, this doesn't mean he isn't putting good amount of effort into all this. Lots of forces going on here to over come wouldn't you say... And we are not at the finish line yet.

If I told my boss I'd get something done and it took me 2 years, there'd be issues. Especially if that whole time I had basically been undercutting my ability to do that job by pissing everyone off, acting like an idiot and and having a revolving door policy for my support staff.

Like the Mueller report...lol You act like he can make the decision and it is done. You are in a company with equal partners and at least 1/2 do not want you to do your project and a percentage of the others seem to not care and give you no support, will you get your project done?

Getting what "stuff" done...lol Afghanistan is not any different than it was before you started your stuff, so what is your problem...lol
