Number of Days Congress Works in Session a Year.

The House of Representatives has averaged 138 "legislative days" a year since 2001, according to records kept by the Library of Congress. That's about one day of work every three days, or fewer than three days a week

Could it be she is showing up at the wrong place for work and no one wants to tell her it's not the Capitol.

Congress is working even when they're not meeting in the legislature. They also have office visits with people, going back home to see their constituents, and there's the whole fund raising aspect. There's not a single member of Congress who works fewer than 60 hours a week, and most work well over 80.
