For some reason Canada decided not to join the United States missile defense program for North America. Does this mean Canada is not safe from incoming missiles? No, the United States is still going to shoot down any missile that is .ing towards for example, L.A. or Vancouver.

The United States wasn't asking for Canada to do much in the program. In fact, the U.S. is not going to lose much from this program by not having Canada in it. The U.S. is now going to make decisions about Canada's security that they wanted us Canadians to make. Americans have been protecting Canada for a few decades so what difference is this going to make...

We are helping in Afganistan and other countries. But guess what, most of our casualities come from friendly fire. And guess who the friendlies are. Be paranoid all you want, but keep us out of your world domination plans.
Peace.

I think Canada doesnt want to be seeing as part of America right now, I think if America want in war, we'd be good to go.
Why would anyone want to shoot @ canada?
And The Usa has stated they'd violate Canadian airspace to shoot down sumthing .ed for the USA.

Look.. the American govn't doesnt respect us anymore. Its painfully obvious. Soft-wood lumber, mad-cow, PE potatoe's! Our governments aint getting along, we're a good people, we oppose war, and I dont think we agree with how the USA is doing its business.

I forget the exact quote, but they did state a reason. To summarize, they think it actually promotes new, more lethal ICBM development as other countries try to update thier arsenal to counter the US's deffense.

I think its a good reason, but its moot. If the US is creating the shield anyways, then other will always be building new ways to get around it. So they may as well be part of it.

Not that seeing all those mad cows get nuked would be a bad thing

You have to earn respect. The thing about Canada is the country has never done anything negative. But they have never done anything particularly positive, either. They're just there, taking up space and not really contributing to the good of the planet in any appreciable way. I do like Canadian beer, though.

That is soooo true, canada DIDNT fight in ww1 or ww2, it DIDNT sign the Kyoto (spelling) accourd, they DONT support peace, they DONT give aid.
gimmie a break, theres other ways to do things without using force, we talk, u kill.

I believe America is forcing Canada to sign on the dotted line to an open concept agreement. Canada has officially stated that it's willing to join and contribute, however not under the terms of Washington's open policy "to be announced later" agreement.

No, you talk, we DO. Well, at least Canada is good at one thing - whining. Along with the French, you are the biggest whiners on the planet. I have nothing against Canada or Canadians. Hard to hold a country in contempt that really hasn't done anything - good or bad.

Yeah, the Canadians participated in WWI and WWII. 'Preciate it. Question, is, what have you done lately? What unique contribution to culture, science, the arts, etc. has Canada made in the last 50 years, or for that matter, ever?

Why would we sink Billions into a program that has no proof of actually working. There has never been one successful intercept and the U.S. is having problems even getting the intercept missile to launch. Would you buy a house without knowing the full story and terms of the contract before you bought it?

I'm getting sick and tired of the attitude towards Canada. Is it wrong that we don't always support the U.S. in it's bid for world domination. It's funny that Canada hasn't had any terrorist attacks, gee, I wonder why that is??? We are viewed as a peace loving country and we want to keep it that way

How about you start here Karellen.

www3.sympatico.ca...

Here's a sample of things Canada and Canadians have contributed to the world...a

carcino embryonic antigen (CEA) blood test - Dr. Phil Gold (1968)
electric hand prosthesis for children - Helmut Lukas (1971)
electrical car (North America's first)
electric wheelchair - George J. Klein
explosives vapour detector - Dr Lorne Elias (1990)
heart valve operation (first)
helicopter trap (for landing on ships)
machine gun tracer bullet
MacPherson gas mask
Walkie-Talkie - Donald L. Hings (1942)

And that's just a start.

Now what whining are you talking about?

LMAO!
When there is an actual website dedicated to great Canadian inventions, I think it pretty much proves my point. Kind of like a site dedicated to great Jewish athletes. The zipper? Yeah, I guess that's a good one - right up there with the Manahattan Project.

BTW, i really like Molson beer.

Yeah, I'm ashamed to be Canadian right now. My gov't is a joke. Basically 2 provinces control the rest of the Country. The frogs & the homosexuals control Canada, everyone else is considered a redneck nazi inbred white trash kkk christian fundamentalist west of Sudbury to the Coast of Victoria.
Just to remind everyone that Western Canada voted for the conservative party in the last election and the Conservatives were pro missle defence 100%. But hey dudes can marry in Canada, what a noble contribution to civilization. (NOT!!) We are contributing to the destruction of an institution older than human civilization itself. But then again the liberals of Canada are that arrogant aren't they! They believe in freedom of speech for child porn advocates but suspend elementry school children for questioning the out of control spending habits of our Govenor General who represents the Queen in which the Liberal spit in the face of! Even our flag is lame. Our old flag was way nicer but it had the english union jack in it and that didn't make quebec happy so we got the lame maple leaf.

Canada says we cannot violate their airspace in the use of our anti-ballistic missile defense system. Obstensably, this means that US interceptors would have to wait until enemy war.s passed into US airspace before we could counter-attack.

My question is thus: If Canada will not allow us to intercept incoming war.s (aimed at the US) over the Canadien landmass....then why shouldn't the US government consider that as tacit support for the attacking nation by the Canadien government?

Funny I thought this was a thread about missile defense not Canada bashing.
I guess in retaliation we can ask what the U.S. has contributed in the last 50 years but again that is not what this thread is about.

Missile defense is good for money and not for peace. Weaponry in space as part of the program. This will only bring arms races and tension between nations. I've already posted enough about this subject on ATSNN so I don't want to repeat them here.
The Canadians in government who are pro-missile defense only take that side because they either want to be best buds with the U.S. again or they are with the Carlyle Group.
All this attention of Canada from the U.S. lately is really getting on my nerves. It took George Bush 4 years to make an official visit to Canada(not the including G8 meeting). His agenda was to get us on board with the BMD and other war issues. So don't expect Canada to cooperate with any illegal wars or with any weapons in space.
