What on earth does that mean?

It means exactly what it sounds like it means.

Have you bothered to read all the posts in this thread?

This was never, ever going to happen.

1984 was just a fictional book and was never actually going to happen. Orwell himself may have very Orwell been snickering as he wrote it (though I suspect not). Irrelevant. The fact that we're talking about it shows that people are taking it seriously, regardless of the intent.

At any rate, as silly as it is/was to suggest GPS tracking for steak knives (and the guy might have just been trolling by suggesting it for all I know), the idea has seriously been suggested by the gun grabbers who inhabit every corner of the internet from every country imaginable. And unfortunately, they're 100% serious. Though most of them have gone (ideologically in their own minds) well beyond the "common sense measures" they're so fond of talking about. But of course there was never anything "common sense" about it with these people, as they were always radical extremists just looking for excuses for their garbage political agenda.

It was a ridiculous off the cuff suggestion made by a relatively unknown politician that no-one, and I mean absolutely not one single person, took seriously.
Its not news worthy because it isn't news, its nothing, a stupid spur of the moment suggestion immediately recognised as being stupid.

Yet still the usual suspects try to blow it up and portray it as something it quite clearly isn't.
Whose agenda is being pushed here?

Absolute joke of a thread.

And absolutely no one from the UK, Australia or Europe has ever posted anything here or elsewhere about how stupid Americans are for not doing common sense things like banning guns because they did and they're so awesome?

Perhaps it is you who doesn't get it. It's not about steak knives at all.

I wonder if this guy knows a little secret....

A quality pair of scissors is TWO KNIVES, all you have to do is remove the bolt.

This reminds me of the time my employer told me I could not long carry my leatherman at work because it was a "weapon". I was flabbergasted since the pair of scissor they gave me had longer blades on them and were sturdier. They also gave away letter openers with the blade and handle being a unibody all metal construction with a large solid metal knob at the base. I kid you not, I could hammer a nail in with the base of this handle without much effort and it would make a real devastating weapon in a fight, but my folding knife/pliers/multi-tool was making people nervous because it was such an intimidating weapon. pffft.

The only people talking about it with any level of seriousness are American's on the internet.
Everyone else, and I mean EVERYONE, is either completely unaware of it, is laughing at the ridiculousness of it or laughing at the American's who are making such a mountain out of a molehill.

Its pathetic.
It was never, ever, ever going to happen.

No-one, and I mean absolutely no-one gave it any measure of credence.
It was a daft, stupid throw away comment - which we've all made on odd occasions - which was so obviously stupid and no-one really gives a toss about, because it meant nothing.

.... the idea has seriously been suggested by the gun grabbers who inhabit every corner of the internet from every country imaginable.

I wouldn't know about that. But this isn't about 'gun grabbers'....it was a stupid, daft, throw away comment.....nothing more....stop giving it such importance.

....as they were always radical extremists just looking for excuses for their garbage political agenda.

Seems to me that in this instance there's only one political agenda being pushed.

And absolutely no one from the UK, Australia or Europe has ever posted anything here or elsewhere about how stupid Americans are for not doing common sense things like banning guns because they did and they're so awesome?

But this has absolutely nothing to do with US Second Amendment rights, gun control or anything remotely like that.
The only people trying to push that in this thread are Americans.

This is a nothing story....only some people seem intent on turning it into something in order to push the perception that we have no civil liberties in the UK - which is an utter lie - and that its got something to do with attempts to implement gun control - which it hasn't.

It's one big, huge, #ing mountain out of a molehill.

If you guys are going to laugh at us when our leaders make "daft, stupid throw away comments," we're going to laugh at you when you do it.

The last time I came across that attitude I was in Primary School.

Just which throw away comments made by a US politician have we Brits took overly seriously and been alone in making such a big thing out of it?

We might take the piss, because taking the piss is our national pastime, but we certainly wouldn't take such a thing too seriously.

Look at our Ms. AOC. She is a relative unknown, yet now she is well known, because she managed to beat an incumbent on a socialist platform. Look at her Green New Deal, and look at it closely. Its ridiculous and nigh impossible to implement. Yet she will gain in popularity because of it. Because it ticks all the right boxes for certain people.

My point is, yes it was a ridiculous suggestion, but for some its not. Its only a matter of time and social nudging before its not to more.
