Excellent thread, thanks.

As a snarky side note, I fully expect everyone on the right who is now calling for unity in this thread and for the manifesto to be ignored to take this same stance if anything is ever, god forbid, perpetrated by a lefty. When unity is called, we all need to stick by that no matter who does the crime.

All things considered, I don't think that's an unreasonable posture to take.

Not only that, they're trying to distance themselves from him just as fast as they possibly can!

Next thing you know they'll be saying he's not really from Oz after all. just watch.

You took it the wrong way. In fact, that is why I inserted the words "Identity confirmed". What I meant by that was due process had taken place without media involvement.
I was not in any way suggesting no due process. So, don't try to put those words in my mouth as that was not my intent.
'Identity confirmed' can be done by a LEO on site. I would suggest that you can't accuse me of putting words in your mouth in the same statement where you ask me to read more into your post than you offered up.
In the words of the Prophet..."Ya can't suck and blow at the same time."
That being said, I accept your word as to your intent.

Fair enough, I should have been more clear, but that was indeed my intent.

You main post is exactly correct, NOW write it again but insert Muslim Terrorists as the perpetrators. All of this begs one question only from anyone.
WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?
Muslim terrorists have committed many atrocities against innocent people including children. So just tell me why is it a surprise that an anti Muslim nutjob retaliates in kind. I am more surprised that there have not been many more.
A person can only turn the other cheek for so long.
Ah but you can try the sympathy card "Oh, but they're women and children, innocents". But what about all the innocents the other terrorists have killed?

Last month two bombs went off in the Philippines at a Catholic church that killed 20 people and injured 80 more.. The culprits were so called Muslim extremist. How many threads were on ATS about the event ? How many pages were dedicated to lambasting the event and how many days were dedicated at MSN condeming the event ? Oh I suppose that does not count in the big scheme of things as there is always someone getting killed by Muslim extremist in third world countries around the world.. But... let one nut job white guy do a terrible deed and watch what happens in the after math..

I would like to know how the guy got the ammo and weapons; also there were reports of IEDs in vehicles...

NZ has strict gun control and I doubt you can walk into their version of a hardware store for an IED.. So where did he get the training and who were the suppliers and helpers...inquiring minds want to know...

Successful on both points.

Here in nz you have a psych evaluation, police come to check your gun safe, check for violent police records, and that's it. I've heard ads on radio for AR15 at $1500. They ask to see your licence and you can purchase almost any fire arm. Its harder to by hand guns than semi autos.

Great thoughts, FCD.
Heartily agree.

I understand that this pos terrorist had no social media until a couple of months before this sick and cowardly attack.
That should reinforce the understanding that he was interested in spreading his hate as widely as possible.

It takes time to lead a social media following.

This has raised a few issues..

Social media/Internet
Gun ownership
Religion

It appears to be an ill devised attack. It lacks clear motivation.

Those responsible are clearly not working together and are growing weak. It is not possible to succeed when there is no respect, peace or love.

I trust that those who lost their lives were in the right space/time.

And, the only news story which ever should have run about him should have simply said...
"The terrorist shooter who perpetrated the murders in Christchurch has been apprehended, identity confirmed and executed."
No mention of names, no mentions of manifestos...no glory. Just 'executed'.

Summery execution...no due process. Hmmmm...I think that's the scariest by-product of this appalling act that I have yet read.

It could exist under special/exceptional circumstances. In my opinion. This pretty much being the only special circumstance that would apply - filming yourself as you perform a mass summery execution and then getting caught in the process.

Hell, allow the surviving families of victims take a vote on it as opposed to prison. Granted it's not summery execution at that point but I guess I'm off topic at this point.

Some see muslims commit acts of terror and want to attack back.

Some think muslims are strategically placing themselves around the world

Some thing muslims are not respecting their host nations or assimilating.

Some think there was a rape epidemic when muslims first arrived in many countries and are angry women were raped.

Some think these mosques have bread extremist who go on to wars against Americans. Like the Christchurch mosque who had 2 members join the jihad.

Some think muslims have completely opposite views on womens rights, gay rights and religious freedom then those of modern first world countries.

Sad situation

I watched the shortened version of the livestream linked off Gateway Pundit that evening and I knew straight away what I was seeing. That clip was mostly the beginning and the drive. As soon as the memes started I knew this guy was a channer, and I knew he was a sh*t poster.

I've never posted on pol but I have perused it every now and then just to get a feel on what people believe. In no way do I agree with the majority of that kind of posting over there, but I feel it's important to hear it out. For the record I've also been over to Daily Kos and Little Green Footballs when they were kind of relevant

The next day I went there to see if I could read the manifesto. I have no faith whatsoever in the media giving me an honest appraisal of what was in it so I had to read it for myself. It was pretty much what you'd expect from someone who posted to those forums. Knowing the mentality of some of those guys I found it to be straight forward about the beliefs of ethno-nationalists. There was plenty of trolling mixed in as well which I think is what throws off people who don't know what they're seeing.

He believes what he wrote. He wants to set the world on fire because he's angry about what the globalist have done with Muslim immigration. He plainly states what his trigger was. He was touring France and was shocked by how foreign Paris seemed to him. Thinking it was just the major cities he went out in the countryside and found the exact same thing. In his words no matter how small the village it was filled with immigrants.

He then went to one of the WW2 battlefields and saw the crosses of the dead stretching out to the distance. That's what triggered him. He asked himself why wasn't anyone doing anything about it. Then his epiphany, why don't I do something about it. That right there, in his own words, is the trigger that the entire media seems to have missed.

As an aside there seems to be a mad rush to put him in a nice box consisting of extreme right wing, white supremacist, neo nazi and racist, all the while ignoring his appreciation of Pakistan and the forementioned liberation of France from Nazi occupation. Again, in his own words he's an ethno-nationalist. He wants everyone back in their countries of origin and not bothering anyone else. His way of achieving it is by doing what he did and setting everyone against each other.

I'm against killing unarmed civilians, no matter who they are or what the actions their "tribe" may have committed. I don't support in any way, shape or form what he did, but I do understand where he's coming from. Very different things. He's started the ball rolling and I don't think this is the last time we are going to see this.

I just wanted to say thank you for this thread.

Over the past few days I have been disgusted by how humanity as a whole has acted in light of the heinous events in NZ, and more sadly many on ATS.

I'm at a loss for words with not what people are willing to morph through their ideological lens for their agenda, but how soon they are willing to do it.

I'm going to be on ATS a lot less for a little while frankly just because it isn't my cup of tea to see the lengths people will go through without anything to support their claims about a tragedy that struck from what I can gather to be a wholesome and calm community.

The worse part about this whole situation is as it stands, his actions are playing people the way he intended. The sad fact that a psychopath can manipulate so many people from so many cultures speaks volumes to our collective mental health. How is it that people's flowchart following goes something by the nature of

1.Which group did that person belong to (the answer is no sane group, because that person is not sane)

2. Distance "my group" from that psycho's "assigned group" (if your esteem is that fragile you have to do that, get some help)

3. Find ways I can fit that walking colostomy bag into my ideological opponents group.

Thank you Flyingclaydisk for bringing a thread of reason to the community.

I too thank FlyingClayDisk for this thread. I don't post here much, especially not these days with all the US political BS going on (I'm Australian and frankly over it) and I have to admit, I don't have the best impressions of OP from past postings. Some things he has said has grated on my sensibilities (I actually hold more of a socialist view of societies). But the premise of this thread I can agree with entirely. All I see is hate these days, especially online (seems that its a lot less intense face to face). I mentioned in the original Christchurch thread about how the gunmen was trying to spread hate, and throwing fuel on the fire hoping it turns into an inferno. I then mentioned that we on ATS should treat each other with respect, regardless of our cultural background or political leanings and throw water, not fuel on the fire. The OP has done exactly that in this thread

Who cares if you voted for Trump or Hillary are christian or muslim or think socialism or free market capatilism is the best answer for society, everyone has an opinion, formed from their experiences, upbringing, maybe even their genetic heritage. At the end of the day, we are just people, or if you want to really get down to it, molecules and atoms lol. I say we express our opinions but with respect, like you would face to face, then ATS and the world might be a slightly better place.
