Major winter storm today! They are saying it was a "Bomb Cyclone" (never heard that term before). Started off as rain and quickly transitioned to snow, then blizzard. Winds 55mph sustained, gusting to 75 mph. Snow, crazy snow. It's been a white-out condition here since 10am.

Fortunately, we knew it was coming and had prepared accordingly. A lot of people lost power, and we were planned for it, but gladly we didn't (so far...it's not over).

Still blowing about 40 mph and gusting higher, but not particularly cold, just 20-30 degrees.

I'm loving the moisture, but the wind sucks.

Stayed inside much of the day, as the visibility was less than 10 feet and the winds were "whippin'".

All in all, a nice day...snow day even. They closed everything around us for 100 miles so it's a good thing we didn't need to go anywhere.

And yes, .... we already had TP, milk, bread and water....and diesel, and chains, and..and..and.

LIfe is good tonight! Roasted yard bird in the dutch oven and some nice Mexican rice!

Best to all...this storm is a rough one and it's headed NE!

Another classic FDC complaint thread.

You should move to florida. Get some floral print shirts and just sit on the beach drinking.

I don't mean urban florida, you'd do good in the bayou.
Trade cattle for gators.

Where do your animals go when it's freezing and/or snowing?

Probably about 40 feet to the west..

Animals are fine in that weather. Imagine if they complained like FDC did...maybe they do. I'd like to see some social media links for the farm animals.

No, it wasn't a "complaint thread" (and I even thought about that BS when I posted it). In fact, it was the exact opposite; it's just a weather event. We were prepared and we're happily riding it out.

Not sure where you're getting the "complaint" thing!

I'm just poking fun at you. Nothing more.

My poor sense of humor mixed with a little sympathy for being in close proximity to the same bag of crap that is the recent weather.

I like them(your threads). Hell, I like where you are at, I think at one point I offered to be a farm hand on the old homestead out there.

You know what? Take a long walk (off a short pier), dude!

I'm done with your crap. Save it for someone who gives a F#! (Note: I don't!)

Don't like it? Don't respond. It's really not that hard!!

Bye.

My humor is an acquired taste.....one even I've yet to acquire......

I'm sure it will work out in the end(I hope).

ETA: We don't have a lot of piers around here, and if we did I'd get disinterested about halfway down it and sit down and drink scotch and smoke a cigar.

We have shelter areas (loafing sheds) built for them to take cover in to get out of the wind and weather.

They all crowd in there next to each other and it's actually pretty warm, even in the coldest of weather.

Plus, our Galloways are pretty hearty animals anyway, so they can deal with most weather, but weather like this can stress them and this is why we have shelters for them to go to. Believe me too, they know exactly where these shelters are and they do, very much, use them. They're usually smarter than most people in this respect...they'll be in the shelters before the weather starts (they know).

It will be interesting to see what the drifting is like tomorrow. All the interstates and highways 100 miles in every direction have been closed down today. And the governor mobilized the National Guard to rescue about 200 people stranded about 20 miles from us. The news tonight had stories showing big loaders out on the interstates just trying to clear the 20' drifts. I suspect we'll be faced with the same tomorrow...once it clears enough to be able to see more than bout 10 feet.

Since about 10am this morning the wind has been blowing at about 45 mph sustained and gusting to 75. Haven't been able to see anything. Heck, I can't even see the trees in the front yard, let alone any of our out buildings.

I'm stuck in California until tomorrow.

Temp around 64 F and it's a little windy.

My life is hell.

We are on the tail end of your weather system, so rain.

Not as bad as the snow. But with 3 feet of snow pack, melting temps and rain. It's all ice out here. I can't walk 3 feet without almost slipping and breaking my head open(would love to see what's in there.....).

I have about 6 inches of water in front of my shed, been trying to chip out some drainage the last 2 days.

I'm more than ready for summer.

I'd rather be here(surrounded by flooding water) or where FCD is (surrounded by snow) than where you are(surrounded by liberals) any day of the week.

It's my last night here, so I did flatulence, said the word, "Harmonica-gendered" and ate red meat.

I may fart before I leave here.

Last night in california? You can't leave before you've participated in the local passtime.

Have you defecated on the street before you check out? Leave your mark on the socialist utopia?

I'd recommend hitting up a mexican spot, drinking a bunch of whisky and just blowing all over a local tech companies front door. Everyone's doing it.

I figured FDC would too, it's understandable though. Internet and all that, hard to decipher exactly what most people intentions are.

Frankly I'm more hurt he doesn't recall previous interactions with my so called "humor" to have known better. And now he will ignore me from now on. That makes me a sad panda.

Ah, good! I'm so happy they have a shelter. I get made fun of in my family because I've always worried about the farm animals when it's cold and snowing. Glad yours are pampered- thanks for reassuring me. 😊
