Not surprising.

I know that the elementary schools here in my hometown heavily frown on kids bringing any snack deemed unhealthy by the teacher. I'm not sure how zealous they are in enforcing this though as my kids were older by the time it started.

The high school here has pizza and stuff, so no fussing about what they eat. Those kids can just leave the campus and head to any of several fast food restaurants just blocks away at any rate so trying to make them eat healthy would be fruitless.

The food industry with the biggest carbon footprint belongs to the meat industry.
Beef produces 50 times more carbon emissions than corn. Cattle also produce more methane through their backsides than people do.
On a side note why are medical insurance premiums cheaper for those who are vegans than it is for those who consume meat?

So apparently my kids school is doing meatless Monday too ... I didn't notice because the daily choices are the same as they have been for the last 4 years .... their just putting a barley readable grafic in the Monday box that says "Meatless Monday" ... what a joke.

3/4 -Stuffed Bread
3/11- Mozzarella Sticks
3/18 - Bagel Melt
3/25 - Grilled Cheese

None of these are new items on the menu and have been around since my daughter has been going to school 4 years ago.

So what's changed enough to illicit controversy? Why are Polititions even talking about this meatless nothing burgers

You do realise that the human diet is that of a frugivour? There is only one thing that we cant get from plants and thats B12 and that can be gained from insects. The human body was never designed for eating meat long term as meat has a detrimental effect on the body.

And yet, your body needs protein to function.

Your point being? Are you saying that seeds legumes vegetables nuts and fruit provide no protein?

Did I say none? Those provided some, but you'd have to consume a good deal to achieve the same amount as someone that eats a balanced meal, let alone someone only consuming meat.

Like I said nobody cares if people are Vegan or not, but there is no reason to say that meat is not an important part of our natural diet.

Beef produces 50 times more carbon emissions than corn.

I'd love to see the study that number came from? Do you have a link? Please no Vegan sites but a link to a peer reviewed study on that.

What I linked is from "Nature" a highly respected publication.

Using estimates from 2005, 2007 and 2008, the researchers found that agricultural production provides the lion’s share of greenhouse-gas emissions from the food system, releasing up to 12,000 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent a year — up to 86% of all food-related anthropogenic greenhouse-gas emissions.

It's simple really. The production of fruits, vegetables and grains "is the main emitter of carbon dioxide in the global food system".

Meat is not an important dietary requirement never has been. Meat has been an important food in regards to survival like in places that has a winter season and vegetation is scarce however survival is no longer an issue for most people in most countries. As to providing a link? Google is your friend put in carbon footprint of meat heres a Link
