An upcoming biopic about the father of Serena and Venus Williams has faced criticism amid reports that Will Smith will play the lead role.

As an actor, I love me some Will Smith. Fresh Prince, Independence Day, Ali, Pursuit of Happiness... good/great actor.

Should Will go full blackface for the role? Might be a problem...

But Smith's reported casting in the film has angered critics, who say he is too light-skinned for the part.

Not Black Enough???

That's just doesn't sit right with me.

Will smith recently went full blueface to depict a character of middle eastern origins, so.... i don’t see any problem with this.

I think Tommy Howell did a far better job at being a black man.

Makeup and black face are two different things...seriously.
Will Smith isn’t blue and yet he is playing the genie in Alladin. How did they determine this did they pull out some colour swatches and decide...nope not black enough?

Sorry but we are looking for vanta black.

Hmmmm.

I thought we were all supposed to be past that.

After all, it was OK for Idris Elba to play Heimdall in Thor and the gunslinger in The Dark Tower, both white characters.

But now, Will Smith is not black enough to play the Williams sisters ' black dad ?

If people really think that way then jussie smollett isn't dark enough to claim he was a victim of a hate crime.

A whole hell of a lot more goes into the performance of portraying a real life individual than just appearance. Sure, it helps more with the simple folk who can only focus on one thing at a time like skin color or good looks.

Speaking of looks, when does that debate start? For far too long good looking people have been getting the roles for real-life ugly people that should be going to the ugly actors. I mean, c'mon Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuornos? Oh wait, Charlize killed that role. Which brings me back to my original point -- appearance doesn't matter.

When are people going to stop being so petty...

You know you're just not black enough when your name is Will Smith. One has to wonder just how black one has to be in order to be considered 'truly black'. This could cause entire new brand of race wars.

Would it be controversial if Mike Tyson played Serena??
In this day and age I think it would be the first time I said, “yea, ok. Makes since”

They could always go ahead and cast the one white man in existence who is allowed to wear blackface and make fun of black stereotypes. Robert Downey Junior a la Tropical Thunder.

That should solve everything and make everyone happy. Hes allowed to do it. Will Smith isn't. End of discussion, problem solved, moderator please close thread

Yeah, but dont forget RDJ wasn't trying to play one of you people, in that movie.

He was trying to play one of us.....Aussies!!!

Who just happened to be playing an American blackfella character.....be different if he was trying to play an Aussie Blackfella......now that would be just Wrong Mate!!
