The lawsuit claims that around July 2017, the Trump Organization and Cohen entered into an agreement under which the company would pay for Cohen's representation and defense for various investigations. The organization confirmed its commitment to the deal through at least May 2018, even after Cohen came under heightened investigative scrutiny. In June 2018, shortly after Cohen began telling friends he was willing to cooperate with the Mueller investigation, the suit alleges the organization ceased to pay his law firm's invoices "without notice or justification," causing the firm to withdraw its representation of Cohen.

Wouldn't that be sad for Trump; to be forced to pay the legal fees of his ex-lawyer who just went on national television in front of congress and dragged his name through the mud. A man who continues to testify in front of congress, already 3 closed-door hearings.

Cohen, in addition to his testimony, has provided many additional documents including those relating to the Trump Tower, Moscow project. Mueller likely already has that documentation but may have not yet been provided to Congress as the Mueller investigation is on-going.

Check this space to see President Donald J. Trump's reaction in the future.

I would have stopped paying his legal fees the moment he retained Lanny Davis. Definitely a conflict of interest if you ask me.

You can't bite the hand that feeds.....or whatever. Cohen threw Trump under the bus. I don't know the exact contract details but once someone turns on you it would negate many agreements of support.

I do think it's funny that Cohen lied (again) to congress about not seeking a pardon from Trump. His attorney, according to one news piece, states that Cohen did seek through him and several other attorneys, a possible pardon from Trump. So now, he has lied again to congress which may bring more jail time. Tch tch tch.

I have to say, what I have seen from this guy as Trumps legal counsel and 'fixer' , I am shocked at what a weasel he is. No back bone, a liar and sleazy appearing. This guy is a pathetic schmuck and my opinion of Trump definitely went down because of his choice of counsel. As it did with choosing his first AG Jeff Sessions. The POTUS needs to get his head on straight with his personnel choices because he is literally hanging himself with these losers as his noose.

Let me get this straight...

Cohen paid hush money to a porn star

Cohen says that payments received from Trump for legal fees were in fact not for legal fees but instead reimbursement of hush money payments

Cohen says that the total payment amount was more than the hush money amount due to taxes- still no legal fee payments involved

Cohen sues Trump for stopping payment of legal fees

Is that correct?

"Around July 2017" ???

Sounds like there's no formal agreement to that effect, or else there would be something with an exact date on it.

The lawsuit uses the same language, even as it uses specific dates for things like when Trump secured the Republican nomination.

-----

Given that Cohen lied at least three times during his open hearing, I want to see a contract covering this before I waste any more time on this little weasel.

No, the hush money payments (and personal reimbursements to Cohen for undocumented 'expenses') were illegally accounted for as campaign funds. On paper, it looks like Trump paid the money into his campaign to cover 'expenses'. In truth, it was a direct payment to Cohen to be redistributed. A chunk of it went to the hush money. The rest went to Cohen personally.

This, however, is separate. It comes from a much later time than the 2016 hush money payments, in 2017 when suspicion was just starting to fall on Cohen.

Don't worry about being confused regarding who paid what to whom (or didn't). That's the thing about fraud, it is intended to be hard to track and to pin the blame on the fraudsters.

I'm sure if you saw the timeline of the relevant evidential paper trail, you would have a clearer understanding, though.

From what i've seen of him, Cohen isn't a very nice man.

He's whiny, indifferent, vicious even in his responses towards others, he is a proven liar twice over, and he doesn't play well with others. It's almost as if someone is paying him to be this way for a higher purpose. Someone high up I would say.

Given the raging dumpster fire that was Cohen's last round of testimony -- where he perjured himself at least 2 or 3 times, accidentally admitted to violating the FARA act, and failed to provide any of the "evidence" he claimed to have -- you'd think he'd want to STFU and stop digging his grave even deeper. But the dude is seemingly not smart enough to walk & chew gum simultaneously.

Cohen's SDNY Sentencing Memorandum, with specific reference to pages 15 & 16 (which fall under the subheading of "Cohen's Illegal Campaign Contributions" from page 13).

Cohen violated the agreement with the Trump organization so cannot sue. In fact, Trump can sue him for everything he will ever make for breaking client confidentiality. Cohen is screwed, even if he writes a book, the money will be taken away from him. A lawyer is not supposed to lie for his client, that is not Trump's problem, a lawyer can just say he is bound by confidentiality not to say anything instead of lying which is sort of like taking the fifth.

Its trumps word against cohen there, and no checks reflecting the payments from the campaign funds. It was personal funds. Sdny is biased as well.

There is no reason I would attribute greater truthfulness to what Trump says. He lies frequently and openly.

Also, the tone of the sentencing memorandum is critically antagonistic to Cohen's claims made to try and appeal for clemency.

The sentencing memorandum was the conclusion of a judge who had before him evidence from raids upon Cohen's workplaces and home because, despite what you might have concluded from watching TV cop shows and courtroom dramas, a confession without evidential support is hearsay and you cannot convict, or sentence, on that alone. You need evidence, motive and a jury verdict.

SDNY might be biased but it has to operate within a legal framework, it is a courtroom, not some TV show or nonsense 'newsy' PR stunt.

Well, Cohen is a lawyer. I imagine he would know if he can sue or not.

In fact, Trump can sue him for everything he will ever make for breaking client confidentiality.

Not if Cohen can establish that he was being coerced to commit perjury, which is the foundation of Cohen's allegation.

Cohen is screwed, even if he writes a book, the money will be taken away from him.

He should not profit from his crime/s. That would be an abrogation of justice.

He has already been charged and is not likely to have anything to gain personally from accusing Trump. Perhaps his motives are good, now?

A lawyer is not supposed to lie for his client, that is not Trump's problem, a lawyer can just say he is bound by confidentiality not to say anything instead of lying which is sort of like taking the fifth.

I'm pretty sure that is precisely Trump's problem.

A lawyer, like any other citizen can claim that they were under duress to commit perjury. It doesn't really excuse the perjurer but it does extend the culpability for perjury to the conspirator/s.
