According to the Parliamentary Budget Officer the cost of the Canadian interim fighter capability project has ballooned 22%. According to the DND
report, total program cost would be $584.5M, while the PBO report put the cost at $767.5M. Development costs for both was the same at $12.5M, but
acquisition costs were at $311.5M for the PBO compared to $298.5M for the DND. The PBO report included a $50M contingency payment that the DND report
didn't inlude. According to the DND, the PBO report included upgrades that they were still working out.
Harjit Sajjan told reporters that the DND numbers were the cost of the "actual interim", and it's ridiculous to suggest that the government is
hiding numbers. He went on to bash conservatives for suggesting that they were.
It just never ends over here. I don't know enough to speak intelligently about it, but it certainly wouldn't be the first time the Liberals have lied
about overruns, if not outright hidden money.
