If Social Scores really take off in the US we are screwed

I know there are things going on in China and India regarding your social score and status.
For the most part it hasn't been a huge deal in the US. I've noticed that it is slowly
creeping in. Very scary to say the least.

There is this site, mylife, probably some others too.

Well well well. Apparently my social score has been lowered because of my family, friends,
neighbors and classmates. What? Some of my classmates and family aren't even alive anymore, but i'm being judged by that???
My neighbors? Are you freaking kidding me... Can you imagine being scored based on your neighbors ?

Better pick your neighbors better next time you move! Look at the scary warning it gave me!!!

I'd be more worried about my ATS associations.

The Fed runs the west- your credit score is the same thing in America.
Instead on but being able to ride the bus with a bad score, you can't buy a car.

Land of the free ended in 1913. It's not communism or socialism, but it gets closer every day.

So since I graduated from a very big highschool my social credit score would be lowered? My graduating class was 800 students. But I guess it doesn't matter if 5 of them went to west point, when 20-30 of them have been in and out of jail their entire adult life.

The whole point of this kind of bovine scatology is to give people an incentive to peer pressure other people into being compliant slaves. Once you get the slaves to control other slaves through outright fear of reprisal you can start doing controlling more and more of society through gentle nudges and not get called out on being an actual slave master.

But that is fine, because you say your slaves can win a vacation! Too bad that you already stacked the deck in your own favor through private schools, well paid lawyers to expunge criminal records, and only befriend others that also control the social system.

The irony of this is it is made out to be about merit, but it is not at all, and never will be.

Mine says I'm an African American and make $200 a year.

They made this information up out of thin air because of my first name that they stereotype as being "African American".

also mylife is full of a but load of false/erroneous information, just like most non-paid databases online.

For reference anyone serious about finding information online and getting paid to do so avoids that site like the plague.

watch the episode "nosedive" (from the show Black Mirror) if you want to get a taste of what can happen from a "social score" very scary. Life imitates art?

I'll be happy if my social score isn't a negative number.

In the business world this is refered to as "gamification"
It evokes action based on personal desire for recognition.

We use this in marketing and sales all the time in the broader outreach model.

what has become really obvious to me...people respond emotionally in a large part here (ats)

the fact that nobody as of yet recognizes "gamification" proves the lack of experienced business people in this thread thus far.

Gamification essentially adds incentitives via emotional responses (turning some goal into a game). I don't see how that aspect changes the meat of the OP. Nor was it mentioned by anyone but you. Business savvy people are still affected by this particular practice. When a negative aspect is added, it becomes detrimental to hardworking people without a strong online presence.

ETA: I recently was involved in a focus group at my company in which the biggest detriment to progress was deemed to be over-gamification...

Yep. I have opted out of every social media platform I could. I know they already have my info, but I don't have to participate. That crap is cancer and all it does is help you hate people, censor certain opinions, and stifle intellectual discourse while promoting chaos and social disparity as a matter of course.
