"The brains of two genetically edited girls born in China last year may have been changed in ways that enhance cognition and memory, scientists say"

"The experiment has been widely condemned as irresponsible, and He Jiankui of the Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen is under investigation in China."

“My reaction was visceral repulsion and sadness.” says Alcino J. Silva, a neurobiologist at the University of California, Los Angeles"

'inadvertently'... That's even worse. What about inadvertent Bad mutations??
Humans playing God, can't end well...

Real MUTANTS !

the first 'gene-edited' babies: Lulu and Nana

Enhanced how? What abilities or functions will be "enhanced?"

I wonder if the children are being raised by their family or if they’ve been seized and thrown into a science lab somewhere.
How do they know they have increased abilities when they’re but a few months old?

Awesome!

I think we need smarter people in the world.

I am all for enhancement for civilians and not just secret military programs which do zero good in my opinion.
Let everyone have a shot at being a superhuman who wants one, and let people who want to stay unenhanced remain unenhanced.

I am all for it, good on China!

LOL you may want to rethink what you just said as they probably have more scientists in China than we have working Americans. Just sayin I see the value of enhancement for those who want it. I also see the advantage of those who want to just be what they believe to be normal or unenhanced.

If that was true they wouldn't be ripping technology off from the rest of the world.

People don't understand just what has happened.

A completely totalitarian regime that's puts Orwell,Huxley to shame 'accidentally' created designer babies.

Mind control at the genetic level,a new way to enforce their one child policy, to making nothing more than a population of drones.

And that's just a short version.

Man you buy the propaganda about China hook line and sinker. I guess it helps you reinforce your belief system

Maybe china will make the next step that I've thought about for ages

to insert the genes from the sea cucumber into the human genome so we can photosynthesis

then humans will resolve our food shortage world wide and we can gain energy from the sun by sunbathing and survive
and also eat when there is lack of sunlight.

also everyones skin would eventually turn green!

I too have had the same idea based on superman or the ancient stories of the solar people who are able to absorb energy from the sun to empower themselves.

I think its a great solution for humanity , if we could become part plant part animal , then we would be winning .

If the humble sea cucumber, an animal that can eat algae and has overtime become a symbiote with the algae it can now photosynthesis , so surely we could too ?
