Democrats rely on the ignorance of youth to win elections. Get them while they are young so they won't see the consequences of what you are asking them to support.

I live here in Oregon, and just heard about this crap yestetday. If anything, the voting age should be raised to 25, particularly if you have lived in a city all your life and were born after say...1995 (being generous).

Utter foolishness. Can see the HIGHschool teachers now, ok kids lets bring in your mail in ballots tomorrow and fill them out "together"

+1. I say 25 minimum. Really more like 35! Need to have been working and actually living a little so you get some perspective on the real world.

Also think there should be a test regarding basic government functions and citizenship to qualify to vote, but that is another topic.

So they want to change the age of consent to 16 it seems.

Interesting.

If i remember right it is either oregon or washington that does the vote by mail and paper ballots turned in at special boxes set up just for voting.

How about a blank piece of paper that the voter has to fill out. If they can not name positions and people they are voting on then the vote does not count?

Something like ...I cast my vote for candidate insert name for the position of insert name and i do not support the opposing candidate insert name.

Then lower the age to buy a firearm and they'll be able to protect their own rears.

No, but I don't think people should be voting if they don't know basic stuff like three branches of govt, major office holders, etc.

I do think there should be a NONE OF THE ABOVE option on ballots....

90% of teens are stark raving mad socialists. They live at home...get free education, food, probably a car and think the world owes them Etc, etc.

THEN...they get a job, maybe a family, lots of bills and start moaning about paying taxes to socislist brat kids.

Sound about right?

Are they going to lower the drinking age too? And force them to register for Selective Service?

Are moving to take full advantage of the brainwashing utilized in the school system before these kids are old enough to realize they have been duped into believing the democratic socialist propaganda.

The drinking and smoking I don't much care for, it's not the big issue.

I was serious about the selective service part though, because that's a gut check when you sign your life to the deeds of others.

So when you go into the ballot box, you understand the ramifications of your vote cast, you now have skin in the game, as literally as it gets.

So, do you automatically assume as you assume the democrats do that those additional ''teenagers'' who would gain the vote were this amendment to pass would automatically vote the liberal ticket?

Much of Oregon is rural country with miles and miles between towns. Farming communities, small towns with one stop sign or less. One school towns. And sure, there are large cities like Portland and Salem but mostly Oregon is rural and country land, hardly a breeding ground for young liberal rebels.

More, if youth are more likely to rebel against the establishment than older people who are tied down with debt and jobs and such as has always been the case, are they, the youth, more likely to rebel against the establishment which so many here think of as the ''liberal establishment''?

On a more philosophical level though, why not. It is as the sponsors of the bill put forth, the future that these young people will be living in isn't it? Five, ten years from now they will be fully enmeshed in the adult world so why should they not have a say in how it will be as it will be their society. Unlike ,that is, all the old folk in their sixties and seventies who will be voting for a society that when it gets here, they will be dead. How does THAT make any sense.

Oregon prohibits any person under age 18 from knowingly possessing a firearm.1 A minor is not prohibited from possessing a firearm:

Other than a handgun, if the firearm was transferred to the minor by the minor’s parent or guardian or by another person with the consent of the minor’s parent or guardian; or
Temporarily for hunting, target practice or any other lawful purpose.2
In addition, Oregon prohibits any person from selling, delivering or otherwise transferring a firearm to anyone under age 18.3 Exceptions to this prohibition allow a minor’s parent or guardian to consent to the transfer of a long gun to the minor and allow the temporary transfer of a firearm to a minor for hunting, target practice or any other lawful purpose.4 Federal age restrictions impose stricter limits regarding handguns.

This seems reasonable to me. How about you? I mean you're not looking for every wild eyed socialist youth to be running around brandishing hand guns are you?

Yeah sounds good. Draft them into the service as well. And don't decline to sell them liquor and tobacco.

Oh yeah, be sure and allow them to purchase hand guns too

You will have to take that one up with the Feds.

Under federal law, the minimum age to buy a handgun from a licensed dealer is 21. But the age limit drops to 18 if the gun is being purchased from a private, unlicensed seller, which could be a neighbor or someone online, or at gun show.

Civil liberty isn't suppose to discriminate.

Even if their politics are snip.

The second amendment applies to every man, woman, regardless of sexual preference, creed or asinine political ideology.
