This is why we sent him to office. To get rid of waste. It is not secret that the governor of California just announced that the rail project that has been an ongoing cash cow for CA is not going to happen the way it was supposed to.

So, in an effort to not waste any taxpayer money on rails to nowhere the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration has sent a letter stating that they are not going to provide 928,620,000 dollars for the project this year.

The FRA listed several factors informing its decision, including the likelihood that the high-speed rail would not be completed by 2022, as contemplated by the original agreement. The state’s high-speed rail authority had also failed, according to the FRA, to provide “timely and satisfactory financial reports” to the federal government.

The Los Angeles Times reported additionally that the Department of Transportation said it was “actively exploring every legal option” to recover the other $2.5 billion granted by the federal government to California for the project.

Of course the governor wanted to blame it on Trump stating his opposition to the wall funding and recalling the National Guard was the precursor for this.

Newsom complained angrily that Trump was carrying out “political retribution” for California’s legal challenge Monday to his emergency declaration to build a barrier on the U.S.-Mexico border. He reiterated: “This is California’s money, and we are going to fight for it,” according to a statement quoted by the Times.

They are now stating it may cost 3 times the initial estimates or almost 100 billion...the project started as a plan in 1996 and now they are stating it might be done in 2033 with LA to SF service. It has been a draw on the State and Federal government for decades.

I for one am glad to see funding for projects like this cut when there are needs for Federal monies to be used elsewhere for more infrastructure projects.

I guess he lost this sparring match.

Which is more important, high speed rail between LA and SF or maybe aqueducting more water into LA?

I know where I would place federal money.

If California won't cooperate with the Feds, why should the Feds give them money for their overpriced and unnecessary projects. The Feds are dumping lots of money into California wildfire and landslide disasters at the time, the government of California is not doing enough to help stop wildfires from starting. They need to be more critical with their citizens with preventing forest fires, Our DNR here is constantly on people's cases if they are doing things that can cause forest fires.

People need to be told they cannot be having unrestricted fires that are not in a pit and fines must be given and rules enforced, I guess nobody in California government wants to tell people no....it might upset the Liberals there if you say they must use common sense.

I feel so bad they lost their rail money.

They should be cut off completely. However there are still some decent people left there, almost 1/3 it seems.

Shame endure such garbage at the hands of bushy tailed socialists but I don't blame them for refusing to desert their homes.

Either way, it is clear given their outrage RE: allocating existing funds for the border wall that they should be jumping to return the money, since they suddenly care so much what is in the Treasury (more of our money for them to blow on useless garbage)

and to Conservatives in CA... hang in there, the rest of Real America (yourselves included) will keep you in our prayers and continually challenging CA's Constitutionally offensive laws

I'm sure California can just tax the rich a little more to get the rail project done, right?

That seems to be the panacea of any budgetary ills.

If CA is against the wall then offer to remove the one that they have and move it elsewhere on the border....I bet they wouldn't like that idea .
Or maybe the walls around all their gates communities could come down so no one will be offended.

Without that influx of immigrants, most of which will settle in California with their illegal families and take away jobs from citizens or be paid under the table, it's not likely that new transportation will be necessary.

Hoping Trump retaliates the Dems using the judicial system to tie up many Dem projects.

The gauntlet has been thrown; time to play hard ball.
