It is a beautiful spring morning,I am sitting on the chair watching the sun rise.
My hands are holding my last cup of coffee of the day,I want to sit here a little
longer.I want just a few more minutes of peace before I start my chore.A chore
that I have been putting off for nearly a year now, spring cleaning my husband's
closet.
I have not been in my husband's closet since I got out the suit that I sent to the
funeral home.I brace myself as I finally open the door and everything is the same as
was. I see all of his work clothes, his dress clothes and all of his casual clothes still
hanging on the hangers. On the floor are all of his shoes and my eyes settle onto
his tie rack with all of his ties.
I run my fingers through his ties and remember how he always had to get that knot
just right.I save back a few of my favorite ones and place the rest into a box.I
spot his old sneakers he always wore when mowing the grass,I saved them back.
His dress shoes he only wore a few times,so I put them into the box.I know that
someone will put those shoes to good use.
His dress shirts and work shirts are all going into the box.I look through his tee-shirts
and smile to myself as I remember when he last wore them.I kept a few of my favorites
and put the rest into the box.Out of the corner of my eye I notice a little, wrapped
box with a card attached.
I pick up the box and stared at it for a few minutes and finally open it.It contained
a beautiful bracelet with charms dangling from it.One was a heart with our wedding
day engraved on it,the others' were all stones representing each of our childrens
birth month.I read the card attached to the little box and tears ran down my face.
The card read...To The Love of My life On Our Anniversary.
The End.

Nice story, a little depressing though, especially since we got three feet of snow over the last two feet up here. Maybe doing it in three months when we actually get spring around here won't be so depressing.

I know my story is a little depressing but this was what I came up
with.I did give some thought to writing a story about fixing up
an old house, but that is not spring cleaning, that is renovation.
Smile...spring will be here soon!

That should have been depressing, but it was actually uplifting.
I can imagine that there would be a smile on her face when she lifted a t shirt or a particular tie. The sadness of loss softened with the warmth of loving memory.

Really really good re imagining of the "spring clean"

Sometimes the story just jumps out of your brain into your fingers, doesn't it?
