I just read a post titled "Rikki" by an admin saying new rules are being enforced on posts that have a picture, link, or youtube video without any or very little text but after seeing this post, I went back to look for it and it vanished.

I read "The Jungle Books" by Kipling many times as a child. That story and the one about Kotik were two of my favorites.

Oh! hush thee, my baby, the night is behind us,
And black are the waters that sparkled so green.
The moon, o’er the combers, looks downward to find us
At rest in the hollows that rustle between.
Where billow meets billow, then soft be thy pillow,
Ah, weary wee flipperling, curl at thy ease!
The storm shall not wake thee, nor shark overtake thee,
Asleep in the arms of the slow-swinging seas!
Seal Lullaby

There is also the story about all the camp animals meeting and talking - the mule, the cavalry horse, the elephant, etc. And all talk about how they serve in the Indian regiment.

They really are a wonderful set of stories.

Was a classic movie of my youth...

The cobra couple were the main baddies, and I didn’t like their scheming ways, but I was always more worried about the tiny snake that camouflaged into the dirt.

The voices of the snakes were pretty creepy, too, if I remember correctly.

I remember Dovovan's song about the character:

"...(Every)body who read the Jungle Book knows that Riki tiki tavi's a mongoose who kills snakes
(Well) when I was a young man I was led to believe there were organisations to kill my snakes for me
Ie the church ie the government ie the school
(but when I got a little older) I learned I had to kill them myself"

That is profound.

I'm a huge animation fan, especially the whole Warner and Looney Tunes collection, so a Chuck Jones film was right up my alley.

Here's a link to the film, in decent quality. Just hit the Play button.

omg, i was obsessed with this cartoon, i had my dad rent the vhs so many times the guy ended up giving it to me as a gift, since i was probably the only one asking for it.
always been fascinated with snakes since a child, so this was kinda right up my alley.
you can find the full thing on youtube and i'll admit at the age of 34 i go watch it very once in a while.
the "look, and be afraid" part still gives me goosebumps.

glad to know that a few people exist that actually know about this cartoon
screw it, i'm gonna go watch the best bits again

How could you forget
the Possessed look in Rikki's eyes
when it came time for business.

Rikki Tikki Tavi
was one of my favorites
