Hey, Democrats, I've lived in a socialist country with income 'equality' and it was miserable

China is communist not socialist you moron.
No one is suggesting we become a socialist country, simply that we broaden our horizons and not limit ourselves to only being a capitalist country.
Idiots these days and their dumb ass remarks. It's seriously bringing down the neighborhood.

OP, thanks for sharing your personal experiences in a socialist state. We need more real life perspective to reflect on. Especially for those who are calling for socialism today. They have to be willing to listen to the experiences learned from those who have lived it. Unfortunately, I don’t know that they care to listen.

I think here it’s a hot new topic but I don’t think it will hold. The left is splitting down the middle. Soon, I think it will tear apart completely and a 3rd party will form; traditional democrats and these new age fanatics. When we see that happen, the modern power structure will prevail and the ideas of socialism will dwindle away. The left will turn their back on those who support it.

America will never have income equality, no different from any other country. That is not the goal. The goal is the raise the standard of living of all Americans at the expense of a relative few that do not need the wealthy anyhow. It does not make them happier or better people. Period. And anyone who thinks it does is a fool. Why? Because it allows those people to wield far to much power and influence over everyone else. And that is wrong, bad wrong.

Now if your talking about power, yes. Money doesn't necessarily equal power.

What we have are corrupt officials that Money has corrupted. That is fixable if only the DOJ had some BALLS.

When the DOJ fails us we don't really have freedom and justice for all.

Well I think AOC would say your wrong. I think you are on somewhat the track we should be on if we could. But the D's are their way or the hwy and the R's are full of RINO's blocking good ideas too and for their own pockets I am sure. McCain was disgusting and even voted against the Combat Veterans needs several times and supported the Cabal.

How does that make their point? I am not a democrat. Please enlighten me. Profanity is extremely useful, and anyone who would say otherwise is probably in kindergarten. Let me help you down off your high horse, you look more at home in a sty.

I left them years ago when they went all batsnip crazy haters of the Blacks right to Vote or eat in public IMO. So, I left for the Libertarians because the R's were greedy IMO and seemed to vote with the D's for socialism and against my logic. I am thinking the Conservatives should be Lib's the Vegans can go Green and liberals can hang there. Get rid of the other two and do not take elected members of the old system in your party as candidates. Advisers only would be the best I could hope for in limiting them access to the changes.

Do you not understand how your dialogue is off-putting and might prevent others from trying to have a civil discussion with you? I’m sure in your world it’s always the other person who can’t keep up with your intellect and unprovoked criticisms, but in reality it’s a terrible way to have a conversation. The only time I’ve found cussing back and forth and name calling to be useful is when I’ve been drunk and unable to use intelligent words and phrases, or even tangible thoughts to express my views. On the internet it makes the user appear salty and ignorant and certainly doesn’t lend itself to contribute to an intelligent conversation.

I could never align myself with one political party because no political party represents all the things I believe in. Though, I do like the core of what libertarianism stands for. I just think it gets twisted and bent by republicans and democrats who want to instill certain parts of their platform for their own benefit. That and they need a better representative for presidency than Gary Johnson.

This 2 party power structure has got to go. We have to get some more reasonable platforms out there for people to consider. But those in power will never relinquish their power until the power is forcibly taken from them.

I would add, you all act like socialism is one thing. You point at Venezuela and say "you want that here!!!", as if we would have the Venezuelan model (or all the us sanctions, economic war, assassinations and coup attempts that go with it). Or "Look at china you want that here?" as if china and Venezuela are the same. When people have clearly stated "look at Norway, we want some of that here".

There are many different forms of socialism, just as there are many forms of capitalism. Look at Columbia! you want that here?? Look at what the lassez faire neoliberal model did to gorbechevs Russia! You want that here? Because Russias collapse was directly following the neoliberal, freidman economic model of total privatization and oligarchic preeminence. Look at Greece, you want that here? Because Greece is the trial run of the privatization and liquidation of public assets that trump wants to do here, and the austerity that the
bankers are drooling over doing to you.

Ah the old "it'll be different this time! We know how to properly implement Socialism" canard.

Sorry bud. It's a massive failure in all its forms and iterations. And no, you don't have the right formula this time.

The poor live better than a rich person in 1989? Seriously? The rich had to budget for food, struggle to pay rent, school, ect....

I call b.s. on your whole post. No tax loopholes, and no ways to hide money. No corporations using tax loopholes to give executives huge bonuses...

You must have never been poor if you think 200,000 a year in 1989 was the same as making 20,000-30,000 in 2019.

America's poor isnt Africa poor sure, but your whole arguement is nonsense.

concept of standard of living is obviously going over your head...

What rich person had a 50 inch HD flat screen TV in 1989? None... yet, the housing projects are full of them today.

A lot of rich people didn't have air condition then, where as most homes in the US have it now....

A Bentley in 1989 didn't have hardly any of the tech found in a $20,000 Kia of today....

Gordon Gekko's brick cell phone in 1989 didn't do anything that the first Iphone could do... Sure some poor people may not have an iphone x or whatever, but even the most basic first gen iphone or even knock off smart phone is nicer than any cell phone of that era which only rich people had...

Today, here is very little that rich people have that poor people don't beyond extra space in a home and luxury at the margins (marble countertops instead of say laminate). It isn't like rich people have refrigerators and poor people don't.

The point is that even the poor in America are in fact rich by global standards.

If you think that the "democratic socialism" in the USA is the same as the maoistic semi-communistic socialism like in China in the 60s-80s, you are very, very, very dense.

If you think that "socialists" have "suddenly enlightened themselves and made a new type of socialism just because they change the name, you are very, very, very dense...

All communists are socialists, but not all socialists are communist.
Every communist regime gets stuck in socialism and they are run under a socialist economic system. The claim that "all people will run the economy and political system of a country without representatives" is false.

Such a "stage" after socialism can never happen because if "all people" were to run the economic and political system of a nation, nothing will ever be done because everyone has different ideas on how a government must be run...

The claims by socialists/communists about "the people will run and control the economy and politics of a socialist/communist nation" is a false claim that will NEVER happen.

The false promises of AOC and B. Sanders and the like are NOTHING NEW. These are the same old lies that have been told to the people of dozens of nations who embraced socialism/communism.

The "new green deal" was enforced in Venezuela by Chavez. Electricity was rationed to only running for 4 hours a day "to combat climate change", as well as rationing food and resources by the "socialist government." Look at what Venezuela is going through. That's what those of you who want "socialism/communism, and the new green deal" want...

The Venezuelan government also "renamed" socialism/communism" to "socialism of the 21st century." If you were to call it "unicorn socialists for change" it would still be the same old socialist LIE...

This wouldn’t be an issue if capitalism wasn’t failing 80% of the population. If the corporations had been just a touch less greedy. If they had increased wages along with the gains in profit and productivity rather than taking all the surplus for themselves. Further, the poor today lack many things that are the real difference between poor and wealth. They lack security, of any type. They lack hope. They lack protection. They lack dignity. They lack prospects. They lack political power. They lack healthy food. They lack disposable income. 40% of Americans make less than $12 an hour. What kind of crap is that? The call is constantly to give more money to the wealthy for trickle down. Well, it ain’t trickling down. It’s flowing up.

I don’t think it’s the socialist lies we have to worry about. It’s the Cia, mic, and us politicians lies about supporting freedom, and democracy. We all know what’s going on. The us is the greatest threat to peace in the world. We are the most destructive force in existence today, so how do you get off pointing at Venezuela or Cuba as examples of evils of socialism while ignoring the massive campaigns we’ve waged against them?
