I would add, you all act like socialism is one thing. You point at Venezuela and say "you want that here!!!", as if we would have the Venezuelan model (or all the us sanctions, economic war, assassinations and coup attempts that go with it). Or "Look at china you want that here?" as if china and Venezuela are the same. When people have clearly stated "look at Norway, we want some of that here".

There are many different forms of socialism, just as there are many forms of capitalism. Look at Columbia! you want that here?? Look at what the lassez faire neoliberal model did to gorbechevs Russia! You want that here? Because Russias collapse was directly following the neoliberal, freidman economic model of total privatization and oligarchic preeminence. Look at Greece, you want that here? Because Greece is the trial run of the privatization and liquidation of public assets that trump wants to do here, and the austerity that the bankers are drooling over doing to you.

Big Business has captured the government, but if the USA ever collapses, you can bet on it, that they will blame it not on the influence from greedy corporations, but on weak socialist policies that were even greater in the past.

Nope. They’ll likely blame it on lazy workers, irresponsible borrowers, and foreigners with brown skin.

Absent that, this thread seems to celebrate someone who has allowed Fox news to damage their brain.

The Socialism and Communism scare is redirection from the billionaire owner class.
A cursory glance at Washington DC and the deep pockets involved, all the money comes from Corporations and Banks.

Those working hard to advance Putinesque Oligarchy in the USA need to sell a false boogeyman to herd the gullible.

...as Democrats justify grandiose proposals by decrying income inequality, many of us who immigrated to the United States from socialist countries see great irony. After all, unending income equality is what drove us to leave our native lands in the first place.

My family left post-Mao Communist China in the mid-1980s precisely because there was so much equality to go around. As a child, I lived in Guangzhou, the third largest city in China. Everyone in my city was equal in having no running hot water, no modern toilet facilities, no refrigerator, no washer, no dryer, and no color television.

There was abundant equality in the dearth of economic opportunities as well. The state told us where to live, where to work, what to buy, and for how much. Worse yet, my fellow citizens who lived in the countryside were even more impoverished.

After decades of totalitarian rule and grand socialist experiments, China had a meager per capita GDP of less than $200 in 1980. By comparison, America’s was $12,500 that year.

One of the key problems with Socialism/Communism is that it creates huge bottlenecks...

If Democrats were promoting Socialism/Communism you might have a topic.

Absent that, this thread seems to celebrate someone who has allowed Fox news to damage their brain.

If you can't process or digest the actual words coming out of the mouths of prominent Democrats since about 2015...then I do not know how to help you.

Help me process how? Like Sean Hannity explaining to you what people "really mean" and how you should feel about it?

More people are capable of independent and objective thought in this country than the Right Wing Propagandists assume.

You can't have uncontrolled capatalism with billionaires lobbying politicians to death, avoiding taxes, and hoping trickle down solves everything.

There has to be some middle ground between this complete socialism, and capitalism that leads to corruption.

Taxing the poor and middle wealth to death is okay because the rich are pur overlord suppliers... Capatalism goes feudal.... I don't believe the theory that all the rich will leave this country if we suddenly make them pitch in a fair share and stop abusing the system to hide money/avoid taxes

See NY state for your initial example of just this fact. It is it in a microcosm.

Source: Gov. Cuomo's Right: The Rich Are Leaving High-Tax New York

But the evidence isn't merely anecdotal. It's a fact.

Just last month, United Van Lines released its 42nd annual "National Movers Study," which tracks comings and goings from all the states.

Leaving New York
Last year, the study said, 61.5% of New York movers left the state; just 38.5% moved in. Among those who left, 41% earned $150,000 or more. Just 8.4% earned less than $50,000.

From 2010 to mid-2017, New York had a net outmigration of over 1 million people, more than any other state. No, they're not all rich. But many are.

Right back at you! You obviously have no idea what living under the excesses of laissez faire capitalism is like. You have no idea what you are talking about by your own argument.

Corruption of people in power has nothing to do with the type of government. Both left wing and right wing governments have corruption.

"Power corrupts..."

Oh, can you tell me how many of the citizens in this land have been murdered and put in mass graves after their body parts are harvested to be sold on the black market?

Cause that is how bad it is in China now.

Well they fail to see how Company bail-outs are Nationalized Welfare of the Rich ..."how dare we suggest our fellow humans have some sort of safety net for when they fall on hard times"

That is because the enemy within is working to create the Socialist Utopia since the majority of citizens will never want it. Only some one brain washed or mentally handicapped would allow a boot on their throat and seek it like some seem to do.

Really? Let’s get some Chinese in here to sound off on that. In the meantime the US exporting capitalism around the world has killed 20-30 million in the last 50 years.

www.voltairenet.org...

“With this preliminary, Chossudovsky introduces to Global Research a documented study by James A. Lucas on the number of people killed by the uninterrupted series of wars, coups d’État and other subversive operations executed by the United States from the end of the War in 1945 until now – a number estimated at 20 to 30 million victims [1]. Approximately twice the number of deaths from the First World War, the centenary of the end of which has just been celebrated in Paris with a Peace Forum.

Apart from the deaths, there are the wounded, who very often find themselves crippled for life – some experts calculate that for every person killed in war, ten others are wounded. This means that the number of people wounded by US wars should be counted in the hundreds of millions.”

You are making a few mistakes here. First of all, socialism is not the same as communism. Period. Even Cortez is not interested in government control of corporations, but for more worker input. No one wants the government to own corporations, which is what happens in communism. Cortez wants more worker input. This happens in countries like Germany with no issues like the dire ones you are predicting.

The Soviet Union and China are not our allies (unless you are a conservative and have a hard-on for Russia), and we are not planning on emulating their policies, not even Democrats. If you look at other countries, like those in Scandinavia, they are doing perfectly fine with some aspects of socialism.

You have to be smart enough to discern between different aspects of socialism and communism and see if they are being implemented in the U.S. or plan to be implemented in the U.S. You cannot pretend that Democrats want to implement policies that they don't want to implement. You have to look at each issue individually, otherwise, you will end up pretending like all of these things are going to be implemented in the U.S. that are simply NOT going to be.

And, let's not forget, if you are an idiot and can't discern fact from fiction, it will make it so that you are not able to make effective policy decisions or decisions in general because you will be basing them on false information.

For example, no one, not even Democrats, are wanting to imprison people. That is a straw man argument.

Right now, workers do need more say. They are not able to afford rent and insurance and food even working full-time.

While the rich have been getting richer, the normal folks in our country have actually lost buying power since the 1980s. The stock market doesn't predict the quality of life for most of America anymore, because it has less and less to do with how much they get paid and their expenses. It only has to do with the rich and those able to invest. And trickle-down economics has factually been proven not to work.

"Democracy is better!"

Y'all don't understand the USA is a republic... God help us all. Nobody even tries to give a crap anymore. Nobody cares about the history behind the USA or why the constitution was drafted that way. And we wonder why things are falling apart...

I haven’t had enough coffee for this.

Never be beholden to the government for your livelihood. The government should fear the people. Ours doesn't anymore. We pay them to control us. More money, more government, more control. More money, more government, more control. More money, more government, more control...
