Seriously. You should think with Congress constantly flirting with single digit approval ratings people would be a fan of anyone willing to shake things up. And yet the people that constantly complain about Pelosi would rather side with her over the woman giving her the two finger salute.

Thats why political chearleaders on BOTH sides have ruined this country. They don't hold their party accountable for anything. All they do is shift focus to the other team where they have no control to Persuade over anything.

The left and AOC needs to stop talking about fixing racism, sexism, healthcare, socialism or growing gov't in any manner until they minimize the rampant corruption and conflict of interest in DC that AOC pointed out.

Why go to (for solutions) the same place that created the problems?

You know the thought process. If only the government had *all* the control, then there wouldn't be any corruption because we all know that absolute power does not corrupt absolutely.

If cigarette smoking causes cancer, then MORE cigarette smoking will cure it!

The mindset makes no sense.

Ocasio-Marxist cries about the money being spent on the wall but has no problem with trillions being spend on even bigger government spending.

If anything, this exposes her as a hypocrite.

You guys Are not giving her a chance.

I remember when trump won it was give him a chance.
Even now you all day that.
Only been in office a couple years.

Well she has been in like a month.

You guys all have your minds made up on 1st already.

Guess only daddy trump gets a chance to work it out

Ok sure. So tell me how free college and free healthcare and updated buildings and zero fossil fuels will be accomplished. Someone has to pay for it, who? And lets not forget that everyone will be helped, even those unable and unwilling to work.

It's not time she needs, this is like promising Americans light speed travel and time travel and then when asked how it'll be pulled off, you shrug and say "I don't know, but it sounds good."

I want to travel at light speed, and I want to travel through time. How will I do it? Furk if I know, but it sounds good. However, I'm smart enough to know that if a candidate comes along promising we can do this, I'm not gonna be on board because it's impossible.

Show me some examples of the left giving Trump a shot. We all know you can't. It's been 2 years of nonstop BS with almost weekly retractions because of their fake news trying to destroy Trump by any means necessary. Show me on Twitter how anyone that leans left is "giving him a shot". You just don't like a dose of your own medicine, plus Trump campaigned on policies that made sense. Like lowing the corporate tax rate to bring back manufacturing jobs. Cutting taxes for the middle class. Fair trade, fighting illegal immigration, end pointless wars, etc. Not this pie in the sky crap of letting the government tax you 70+% and everyone lap it up like the government is doing me a favor.

If you saw the Q&A document that accompanied her Green New Deal, then you would understand. She romanticizes the kind of harsh governmental control of every aspect of life that happened during wartime mobilization in the US. She thinks that ordinary folks will tolerate that kind of control again for Climate Change. So it's no stretch to think that she genuinely believes that this kind of control will be corruption free and was probably squeaky clean during wartime too.

There is nothing that prevents our politicians from being beholden to corporate interests over the people they're supposed to represent.

That is quite correct and that could be the single most powerful mechanism to stop alt-left "Justice Democrat" socialists like AOC. In fact, I am counting on that. Look at AOC's proposals. The Airlines with their lobbyiists are not going to go quietly into the night. The awesome wealthy Health Insurance companies and their lobbyists are not going to just surrender to single-payer government provided health care.

Therein, AOC and her ilk make a major miscalculation.

Part of the problem however is that politicians made it clear the degree to which they were willing to meddle with business both to their benefit and detriment via taxation and regulation. When that happened, businesses started to actively work to affect the outcome to their benefit and their competitors' detriment. And do you blame them? And then politicians, being the slimy weasels they are, started to enrich themselves out of that game.

It's a vicious circle. Both sides are at fault.

We're pretty much as close as we can get without abandoning regulations altogether. Things were arguably better before Citizens United.

So why do you think giving corporations more power over politicians will lead to them caring more about their actual constituents?

So by your rational what should happen, no sex at all? Should we take those who have sex out of wedlock and sterilize them? Oh you want those who have sex and are not prepared to raise a child to have that child and ensure that their life(both the women and child) is even harder than it already is. Or should they not have sex at all? Baby murder, is that affecting your ability to get to "heaven" or sleep at night or live your life? Most likely not, it doesn't affect you in the least you just feel you should be able to control all aspects of someone else's life. Keep screaming baby murder if it makes you feel better, it still has absolutely nothing to do with YOUR life. Hey you know what else the Right thinks is bad homosexuality how about we make sure the gays can't do what they want with their bodies. What about tattoos?, god says do not desecrate your body, ban that too. How about this you do what you want with your body and don't worry about what other do to theirs. There is a reason abortion exists, problem pregnancies, rapes, and unwanted pregnancies, all these issues have nothing to do with YOU. There was a problem and we as humans created a way to deal with that problem and if you don't support it than don't do it, why worry about what others do?

How does not supporting the murder of a child affect your life? You act like ketsuko goes door to door knocking abortionists in the head with a rock. You support it, you be you. ketsuko doesn't, let ketsuko be ketsuko.

What her ilk doesn't understand too is that those corporations are in fact "the people". If Grandma's pension is invested in airline stocks, I"m sure she isn't going to like to see her pension returns reduced because AOC wants to go green. I'm sure the employees of those companies don't want to see their jobs eliminated either.

Lobbyist represent a group of people who have some interest in whatever the politicians is doing / proposing.

It's not the salute Cortez is giving Pelosi that we don't agree with. It's every single other ideal Cortez has. In the grand scheme of things, a future with Cortez would be far more dangerous than a future with Pelosi.

This is like praising a hate spewing militant black nationalist for helping an old white elderly lady across the street.

I just saw a video of her having this discussion and wow was that impressive. I know of her, but she is very much just a name for me right now although I have noticed lots and lots of threads mention her name. I guess I get it now, I can totally understand why someone who comes out and says stuff like this could be seen as either a very credible political figure or a threatening figure to others.

I really do believe that what she said about the power of big lobby groups is true, it always amazes me that for a conspiracy site its not something that's discussed more.

Interesting comments.

Trump calls the corruption out all the time and he's hated for it. Why wouldn't he be as appreciated as Cortez?

Republicans want people to take personal responsibility for their actions.

I used to think that the comedy duo of DBC and Augustus are the funniest people on ATS but you may have just usurped that throne.

Very well put and quite correct and your response points up a major blind spot for AOC and the Justice Democrats, i.e., they really dont understand how the real world actually works. They fail to grasp the fact that the business of America is.........business; that whats good for General Motors is good for America.

That said, I never allowed my Grandmother to invest in airline stocks because I see that industry as more resembling a pyramid scheme.........but thats just me. I prefer Proctor & Gamble, JNJ, Merk and Coca Cola, Chevron and Oneok Partners.

This is true. My husband is *gasp* a member of a dirty lobbyist group for his industry. He has actually sat across from government regulatory peeps and argued against proposed regulatory changes. People might be surprised how stupid government bureaucrats are when it comes to proposing rules changes on the industries they are hired to regulate. Sometimes, they really have no clue how those industries work or anything at all about them, and sometimes, they simply make proposed rules changes in order to get their names on those changes so they can look good when it comes time for their own promotions - they couldn't care less about whether or not those rules are sensible or actually make any improvements.

To be fair I called this back in 2016. I said that if the Republicans acted just like the Democrats did in '08 (which they did) we'd just see a repeat of the Obama administration (which we are.)

The Dems have taken over the House (and will probably take the Senate in 2020), they're acting as the Party of No, and now we're seeing an "extremist" contingent (*cough* Tea Party *cough*) is starting to emerge.

I disagree. This country was on the verge of collapse and it woke republicans and independents up. We now have record low unemployment for minorities, more women in the workforce, higher paychecks, better taxes, better economy, higher stock market, higher consumer confidence, and many more good things that positively effect this country. Why do you think the pendulum would swing? Trump even has more black support than any Republican has had in decades.

My so extreme!

More like you should realize that if you do it, you are taking on the responsibility. If you are willing to be responsible for sex, you better be willing to absorb all the potential consequences. So if you don't want a kid, don't do it.

It's pretty simple.

It's definitely that simple. But we have a gaggle of people in this country who think their actions are the responsibility of everyone else. These are the same ones that scream at you if you offer to give them advice on how to live a responsible life. How ironic is that?

I mean, Uniformkilo looks like (s)he'd like to rip you apart for having the audacity to pin responsibility on the responsible parties.
