So here we have abrhams being doom and gloomy, and trump being upbeat.

Now didnt the dems say Trump is dark and they are hopeful?

Abrams hasn't won anything yet. She needs to be more Michelle Obama-like.

OMG..NBC just found 5 Federal Employees who are angry that they're being used as Trump's pawns.

It may come as a shock to them, but 50% of government employees are NOT NEEDED.

They should help the country, and move to private industry.

Jumping in without reading the whole thread here...

I thought Trump gave a good speech. I liked how he was able to point out things that everyone should be able to agree on... things like promoting research into childhood cancer, breakthroughs in AIDS treatments, praise for America's actions liberating Europe in WWII, a condemnation of antisemitism, a call for infrastructure improvement, the historic low unemployment rates, the growing GDP, the increased child tax credit... and some that I know will remain controversial. It was emotional for me, and gave me a hope for the future.

I almost missed the fact that he didn't declare a National Emergency over the border... it was that good IMO.

But then Stacy Abrams took the stand.

Damn, this woman is nuts! She complained about the government shutdown, expressing how in Georgia she, as a legislator worked with the other party to produce bills to keep Georgia open, while trying to shift the blame for the US shutdown away from the legislators. She complains about people not having hope... when Trump just inspired more hope in me than Obama ever did! She complained about kids in cages under Trump, completely ignoring the fact that that program was started under Obama. She even complained that people wanting to start a business have to hunt for funding... like that's anywhere like a new thing!

I swear, she is either a psychopathic liar or hopelessly insane. Georgia, you guys dodged a bullet!

But back to the speech...

I don't think Trump's speech changed any minds. Pelosi was busy shuffling papers. Schumer... he had this weird smile plastered across his face the whole time; did he have a stroke? Bernie was just mad. I'm not sure why; Hillary was the one who made sure he wasn't the one standing up there. Cortez was pretty obvious in her hatred of all things Trump, although she did get a little looser as the speech went on. Maybe she finally heard some of the things Trump has done that she liked.

I don't know what's going on with Pence, though. He sat there sort of like he did in the White House negotiations with Pelosi and Schumer... almost like a cop watching for someone to get out of line.

And we did get a date on the next US/North Korea summit: this month on the 27th/28th in Vietnam. I hope that goes well... we do indeed have a long way to go with Kim Jong Un.

Rebuttal was ok.

Nothing spectacular, but nothing too bad either.

She did not rebut anything. She gave the pessimist belief of the SOTU.

Abrams sounded like she was still in campaign mode.

Did CNN run one of their "FACT CHECKERS" again? Their last one, critiquing the President's Oval Office address, was an embarrassing disaster.

Abrams just sounded... disturbed... sorry, but I can't think of a nicer way to say it.

I loved her intro story about her father giving his coat to a homeless man (probably not true, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt). "I knew he'd be alone when I left him, but I knew you'd be coming for me." Awesome! But then she just went off the rails with the classic Trump hate. Her tie in to that awesome story was weak, too... "Hang on America; we're coming for you." You were the guys who stole my coat in the first place!

I dunno, it's like she wants to take away every bit of pain from everyone... but that doesn't work. Like McCoy said in one of the Star Trek movies: "I can't let you take away my pain. I need my pain. My pain makes me who I am" (or something to that effect). Without pain, we never get to feel the joy of success, either.

I've gone through a lot of pain lately. My bypass surgery grounded me from a project I was frantically trying to finish. By the time I could work on it, it was too blasted cold for me to make it to the shop... hard to solder SOICs when you're shivering. I was going stir crazy! But then Saturday the weather warmed up, and I was able to get out to the shop for a while and troubleshoot some hardware issues with the circuit boards I had designed. Sunday I figured out where the errors were coming from... yesterday I spent all day trying to figure out which part was the problem. Today, I found the problem and got it working 100%. That's joy. I got to see something I designed come to life. I just sat there for almost an hour watching it flash the right test pattern on the screen over and over. Someone could have kneed me in the gonads and I would have fallen to the ground with a smile on my face.

Without the pain of struggle, I would never know that joy of creation.

Abrams apparently doesn't understand that. She seems to want to take it from everyone. No. Not from me. I need my pain. I want my pain. I will never surrender my pain, for to do so would be surrendering my joy.

That section of your post describes how God must feel when creating a human life. Imagine how he views those he created, destroying his latest creations before and after they leave Mom's womb.

Stacy Abrams was better than the guy (Joe Kennedy?) who delivered the SOTU response last year. All I remember is him having white goo in the corners of his mouth.

Some Democrat guy on Fox just said that Trump started off his SOTU threatening Congress. This guy is a trip. I cannot believe what I’m hearing. Brad Sherman spouting hatred for corporations and saying that mostly it’s top % invested.... Ingraham came back with Americans with 401k invested in the market. This guy sounds like a typical socialist.

Yeah the part that got them was the part about we cannot legislate while we war and investigate". The talking point is now that that was a threat to veto anything Congress does as retaliation for their oversight 'responsibilities' (aka witch hunts).

The party that wants unity doesn't know when someone is asking for unity? This is the best they got? WOW, what a speech!

lmao, so do everyone, right?

praise for America's actions liberating Europe in WWII

I find this a bit offensive, if you read back what he said, was it for Europe or for America? Did the US win the war? what about the other people that died there, who were not Americans but fought the harder part of the war? The way he says it is like the same thing i keep reading on and on, America won WWII, no mention of anyone else, rewriting history again and too bad it is told like this. Because it did not happen at all like that. It can be offensive you know? To say "liberated Europe" and a few moments later "Why did they do it? They did it for America - they did it for us" Selfish much

a condemnation of antisemitism

That word just means not liking how Israel does things. But like i said on another thread, why is Israel ignoring and not taking good care of lots of the holocaust victims currently dying in poverty in the US? Why mostly no one knows and the ones who know care little?

Should not they be treated better? And someone already commented before about this, saying it's the fault of the holocaust victims for not asking for help. But everything is done in their name, and they get nothing out of that. And they are very poor, elder and dying. Is this idea i have that Israel is mistreating those people but doing things in their name, antisemitism?

edition.cnn.com...

I just think this should not need to happen at all, Israel has the resources to give them a good life, so how come?

I have been called anti semitist for bringing this up
So that word is not really a good word to use, if we see the real world out there

Oh also, i had to add this link!

So this is how the propaganda machine works in the US? Are people truly reading and getting brainwashed by dumb pages? LMFAO!

Trump drew from Putin’s playbook by using WWII as unifying message in State of the Union

True, true... but I usually try to read the threads before posting in them. Keeps me from looking quite so stoopid sometimes.

I find this a bit offensive, if you read back what he said, was it for Europe or for America?

If one looks back at history, it was the US who turned the tide of battle. That does not minimize Europe's contribution, but the sad fact is that they were losing.

This speech is by a United States of America President to the United States of America Congress concerning the state of the United States of America. It was not given by a French President, a Spanish President, a Greek President, a Polish President, a UK President, or a German President. The United States of America is one nation on the globe, and we have been pretty successful. We are one of the most powerful nations on earth, but that does not mean we hold some obligation to include every other nation in our ceremonies. If that offends you, too bad. I don't get upset when people celebrate Cinco de Mayo and don't include the US... it's not a US holiday! I'd love to see Oktoberfest sometime, but I wouldn't expect the Germans to praise the US in the middle of it.

Yes, the Americans fought for the United States. They only fought for France because France was an ally. No one is going to willingly go to war for another nation unless there is a benefit to their nation. That's just how it is. I feel that if other nations realized this, maybe they would be more willing to fix their problems instead of expecting someone else to come help fix them. We fixed our own problems. We threw King James and his red-coated sissies outta here and we didn't wait for someone else to come to our aid to start it. Even France, our largest ally at the time, stayed out of it until they realized we were winning.

America is for Americans. France is for the French. Spain is for the Spanish. Germany is for the Germans. China is for the Chinese.

That word just means not liking how Israel does things.

No.

That word means open and hostile discrimination against the Jewish people. This has nothing to do with Israel. Israel did not even exist at the time of the Holocaust.

There is a difference between the Jewish people and the nation of Israel. I don't agree with everything Israel does. But I will not become hostile to the Jews over what a nation does, just as I would consider it a breach of reality for someone to claim that I was personally responsible for the mess in Syria.

I have been called anti semitist for bringing this up

Well, now you know how I feel. There is a certain word that shall remain unspoken here which meant, in my culture, "black person." Its meaning was somehow changed to a derogatory slur, and suddenly everyone who used it to mean "black person" was deemed evil and despicable, unworthy of even their income and/or possessions, instead worthy of public scorn, even if it was used before the change in definition.

Well... maybe you know a little. I think you are actually confusing the word "antisemitism" with the concept of "zionist." I'll admit I am not very sure what "zionist" really includes, but I know it has something to do with Israel, and it is not a good thing to call people. Some of them get very angry.

I've tried to defend AOC as merely being young and inexperienced. But I'm starting to think that she really is just stupid.
