I don't think hammers are going to raise a lot of suspicion.
I could purchase a collection of Kitchen knives from Amazon, doesn't flag me as a terrorist.
You are right though that the UK is becoming more police state every year.
I for one don't like it.

The Gatswick incident i firmly believe was not a citizens fault at all but was fabricated by the government to enforce more laws in the country.

I have the solution for London's woes:
Knife-proof nerf suit body armor for everyone!

Give it time.

Feels like more of the "lets all bash the UK" BS that has been sweeping through ATS recently.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Despite the testimony of numerous ATS member they still seem determined to believe this bollocks.

Unless I can borrow a nail gun off a mate soon I'm going to have to buy one for my Dad for a job that needs doing in his house....if I have to I can guarantee that I won't be getting a visit off the Anti-terrorist Squad.

Have you got any evidence to support this?
Maybe some first hand testimony?

Who knew hammers and knives were weapons of mass destruction.

No I don't but it sure feels like it.
Just wait for the police to start using drone technology in a few years.

Buying a hammer: terrorism

Gang-raping thousands of underage girls: acceptable, normal behaviour

British police: morons

Scaremongering.

The police don't have the resources to do their job at present.
Things won't be changing in the near future.

I'd love to know where the resources would come from for drones and training etc.

Seems to me people are just making things up simply to support pre-conceived opinions etc.

How does it 'feel' like it's becoming more of a police state?

Many of our police are indeed morons - they tend to gravitate to each other.

But the rest of the post is complete nonsense.

Show me where anyone has been prosecuted, questioned, prohibited etc from buying a hammer?
How many grooming gangs have been prosecuted in the last few years?

The police don't legislate policy, they enforce laws.....as best they can given the resources available.

We've got loads of drones down here (SW).
I was talking to a PC I know down here and on a normal week night there are around 5 officers out on duty (Which shocked me).

The new Knife ASBO might have some kind of effect in the big cities but I doubt it, the police have no respect anymore.

When I was a kid (Lived in a big city Manchester actually) The local bobby knew you by name, they knew who the bad boys were. You got a clip round the ear or they'd visit your house and talk to your parents.

Now with no community policing they stay in their patrol cars and don't get to know the community because they're too scared to do anything.

I've bought 2 claw hammers, 2 mash hammers and a sledgehammer in the last year, not to mention a 2 handed axe, never had to give my name or address. Which watch list am I on?

That's quite the arsenal. What's your plan? Take out a nuclear reactor?

I dont get how if you buy hammers or or knifes u go onto a watch list. You can buy them cash from a shop without handing over identity details

I work in construction these days and have to say that you can't move for the amount of Police turning up to various sites, pulling brickies, chippies, plumbers and sparkies off site for having knives, hammers, pickaxes, blow torches, etc.

Oh, that's right, no they don't. What a completely rubbish story.

Freeborn is right that this seems to be a bit of a trend by certain members to post incorrect anti UK stuff. I may have to start trawling for weird stuff in the US and start posting them as an example of how the US is fooked beyond recognition..........

Can you be a police state with hardly any police left?

Ive never even been looked at strangely when buying tools. However if you were stopped by police and had a hammer or screwdriver in the front of your car, then questions would be asked.

As to recording police, as far as i know you have every right to do so and most officers don't mind (except for the few arsehole ones with a chip off their shoulders) . Where the problem comes in , is when idiots start sticking the camera in the cops face invading his personal space (loads of these vids on youtube). The copper then sees this as attitude and starts getting pissed off.
