How is this any different from the hate directed at the US?

Don't confuse hate with disgust

Right...ever heard of Great Britain, France, Spain? No, certainly no imperialism there...no, no

How about the Moorish conquests, Mongols, Ottoman?
Oh wait, I forgot the Soviet Union, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands...

The past doesn't justify the present.

I agree but I don't see how shipping your gold to Russia has anything to do with the USA. Obviously Russia has incentives to get some oil in exchange for protection and influence. How is this any different from the hate directed at the US? Russia loves toppling and using puppets for personal gain.

I get what you're saying.

But I would like to note that Russia's interest are likely at keeping their production level down right now.

The Ruble is about 50% of where it was at 5 years ago, partly due to sanctions in response to Crimea, but mostly because of crude oil prices being low.

But I could be wrong.

You'd think they wouldn't want to leave a billion dollars of gold sitting around on an airport tarmac any longer than absolutely necessary. Especially when your population is starving, and your currency is being used as toilet paper.

Could be a hint the rumours aren't true.
I suspect the plane takes off after some assassinations, or it's there to prepare the new elections.
It's definitely not about the gold.

Could have something to do with Maduro's claim Trump wants to see him dead. Here

Maduro already lost control over the gold stored with the Bank of England. He wants to secure this where the opposition can't seize it.

I'm thinking Russia will export what Venezuela needs, in exchange for a more permanent Base situation. Putin came to collect.

You are kidding right? There is nothing Imperial left about Russia. They killed all their monarchs, all their relatives, all their nobles. There are none left amongst the nations powerful. Not that I have any particular love for Russia. I mean, Putin is scum, capable scum but murderous scum all the same. But its not imperial at all.

To call the US or any of its actions imperialist is false as well. If its not done for the sake of Empire, (rather than federation, which is a different matter) then its not Imperial in nature. The US has been, is and is becoming however, barbarian in the extreme, and a country which has had too little time to develop its own culture, leave alone comment on or correct that of others, therefore ought to wind its silly, saggy, orange tanned neck in, before the rest of the world decides its head would look better eyeless and divorced from the rest of itself.

My guess is they'll let them borrow it as well.

Russia has taken a huge economic hit the past five years, but they aren't crippled by any stretch.... So if they can put a country in debt who has more oil than Saudi Arabia, it gives them more economic stability in the years to come.

If Saudi Arabia keeps flooding the market to flush out short term competition, once their reserves get skimpy, it won't matter so much if oil is of ideal production/shipping quality, people will have to use what they have to use, and all eyes are on Venezuela.

It's in Russia's best interest to play nice with Venezuela (as well as with their increasing number of strategic allies).

Russia is in the process of rebuilding their sphere of influence, which really started happening in the early 2000's.

Slowly, but surely, they've been extending beyond their region to be able and reach out anywhere in the globe. Venezuela will be one of their partners that offers some of the greatest longevity assuming their isn't a sudden regime shift.

No idea how to even respond to your rant about US culture your hate for Trump and your definition of modern imperialism.

I'm just an uncultured American durp durp

Thank you kind sir!

I'll go one step further and say something I doubt more than a few would agree with, much less like.

I think it's important that Russia regains some of their strength (in the right ways). They honestly present themselves more as a long term ally to me than adversary.

They've struggled with Islamic extremism for some time. They have helped us out quite a bit on that front as well.

Next, China probably presents more of an immediate threat to Russia than us due to proximity and their lack of reach at the moment.

I think it is important we start leaning towards closer ties sooner rather than later. If we don't, when the tensions hit what seems to be an inevitable tipping point in regards to China, then they would probably go off of an enemy of my enemy is my friend, align with China short term and have a Cold War like fallout after.

That's another angle. Could be Turkey, Syria or Iran...

Russia would love for Turkey to sway away from NATO. Better yet buy Venezuela and have their own strategic playground. Russia has never liked that the U.S. has a missile base so close to them being in Turkey. Gain control of Venezuela and place a strategic base in the Gulf of Mexico.

Before I nod off in another post surgical nap... I feel this is the first little steps in acquiring land/property by Russia.
