He said he wants American companies to be the ones that produce the oil in Venuezuela. That is not taking the oil.
It's exporting US industry to another country as opposed to letting competitors do the job.

As far as I can tell we purchase the oil on the open market, aka, pay them for it.

It's not like valenzuela could use the money or anything.

But I doubt the money would actually go to Venezuelans, we could plant capitalism there, and it may not fix systemic corruption.

Either way, so long as we don't turn this into a conflict, this is just business as usual.

Using US companies to produce the oil and importing it from Venuzuela is not taking the oil - it's consuming it - at great economic benefit to Venuzuela.

Wasn't it US companies that were running the refineries before Hugo Chavez nationalized them? If we weren't "taking the oil" then, why would we start now?
