With so much disruption over the past several months especially, it's long past time for ATS to go HTTPS. The last 3 times I have tried to connect, it either takes forever or not at all.

It's time to upgrade your connectivity ATS.

You want to add an extra step into a process to try and reduce the tinge that process takes?

I mean, I'm all for https... But your reasoning is missing some reason

I’m all for HTTPS to securely encrypt our data sent on ATS, but I don’t think and SSL encryption will fix the problem on your end.

I admit I am computer illiterate but I do know the status quo has become frustrating to say the least. You have a better solution? Let's hear it.

This comes up every month or so. Somehow adding a layer of encryption somehow makes connections work better.

Who wants someone to sneak a peek at their post before it comes into public view on the forum page.

Start paying for ATS.
It's not cheap to provide a free forum.

Maybe one of the owners should stop by and give you an idea of what it costs to keep this place running every month.

Having said that, maybe you should buy the ssl cert?

It's only a few hundred usd a year. Certainly you can spare it, even though all it really does is prove that some third party for profit organization approves of this website.

Not like a business could possibly be bias, right?

SSL Encryption for....A login password to a public forum.

Really? Do you use the same username and password for financial dealings? Or to some sort of Intelectual Property that you could lose a considerable amount of money over?

There is a simple solution if you do happen to fall into a similar situation that doesn’t require a retool of a website and major tweaking to an enormous database to keep existing links valid. Tweaking that could actually hose the site for a very long time.

And it is actually the size of that database, which keeps forums, threads, posts, member status straight that cause the slowdowns at specific times by saving, sorting and parsing information and feeding info to the RSS feeder.

As stated above, adding additional overhead will not help your ats connectivity. However, since Let’s Encrypt is now supported across all browsers, an ssl certificate would atleast be free.

Imho, most of ats’s connectivity problems are because of the custom (obsolete) forum software (not a dig at ats, it takes lots and lots of money to continue software development).

There are more than a few other sites that use https that don't require a paid subscription.

The problem here is either www. or their server is either obsolete or incapable of handling volume. Either way, it's frustrating and I for one am beginning to get turned off by the frustration.

Edit: But what do I know...I'm computer illiterate.

Pay? Possibly.
But when did you last see a Mod answering site questions?
Ads might only cover hosting fees but there seems to be a lack of 'love' for what was an awesome site only a few years ago.
Or is it just me?

Po dunk mom and pop websites use https. But the biggest conspiracy site in the world does not? Only one logical reason, they want to be able to read and track what you say on here. Bottom line. No other reason whatsoever. If ats isn't cia from the get-go, they are at least partnered.

What you say is posted here for the world to read. How would https change that? You do know what https is, correct?

Wouldn't an alias DNS tweak fix the need to require all links having https in it?
