That's some fancy calculating. Now the migrants are not spread evenly throughout Italy. In fact the Italian population is not evenly distributed.

Squeeze all those migrants into southern Italy for a better perspective.

The big difference between Italy and the Vatican is that Italy has had enough while the Pope is pushing for more. So give him more. Or does he just want more migrants for everyone else but him?

No, the Pope is saying that the countries should help the migrants that reach European countries, he is not pushing for more migrants.

He doesn't want more, and, unlike Italy, the Vatican does not have any free space to have more. Italy, as you said, does not have a constant population density throughout its whole area, so they have areas with less people that could have more.
