Even if Trump doesn't get the wall, it won't be because he hasn't exhausted every possible avenue. He can genuinely say Hey, I tried but your own politicians and government want the border open.

I think that is his long term strategy. He wanted to go to the brink and then give in. It was theater.

Think about it: he had to know he wouldn't get what he was after. So what did he really want?

I think he wanted the Dems to show they were willing to shut down the government over a position that isn't really very popular (that a reasonably priced wall is worth sacrificing everything to prevent). For everyone to see that they are lunatics with an agenda.

By backing down, he makes THEM appear to be the unreasonable ones. Now, for all anyone knows, the Dems would have been willing to make government workers miss 2 or 3 consecutive rent payments, and possibly suffer eviction from their homes.

Trump, on the other hand, pushed EXACTLY as far as a reasonable person could go, and then stopped.

You understand that the U.S. and Mexico just opened a new land port of entry in Santa Teresa, yes? That's part of the same project. It's not like they are just randomly building a wall along the border somewhere. Where that part ends, it will either be fencing or even nothing at all, depending on who owns the land.

Many privately owned ranches run along the border, so it would require negotiating at a minimum, easements to construct fencing, and actual land acquisition if the U.S. wanted to build a wall and road to occupy permanently.

The wall doesn't need to cover the entire border line. The wall just needs to be placed strategically along the border where it is easier to get across all the way to where it would be very difficult to get around. I know you hate to see that wall being built but you better get used to it because the wall is in progress and the wall will get done. It's about time we had a President that put America first. The U.S. isn't some sort of battered woman's shelter of the world where everyone can just come in here with their drug carrying disease ridden felonious asses and take the jobs of citizens and bring down the pay rates for hard working American citizens.
