I think the main point is that there is probably NO solution to tunneling, but the whole point about tunneling is irrelevant. The wall is not going to reduce illegal crossings to zero. See, that is where the left want the debate to be - they focus on whether it's possible to breach a wall and not on how many crossings it will stop. It's a dishonest tactic they use. I even saw one ridiculous thread about it being possible to saw through steel so a steel barrier was apparently no good!
