Free Porn, screensavers, downloads. Not really free!

I'm not sure if this is in the correct place or not, it is a type of conspiracy....

I always find it amazing that people think there is "free" porn and other things on the net....don't people read, learn!? nothing is free....all of those places sneak things in on your computer...especially porn sites are notorious for putting dialers, spy wear etc...on your machine, that's why they give you free tid bits of porn at no cost.....it needs to be advertised more about this practice...I know so many people that have crap on their machine from these places, slowing down to almost ruining their computer

Yeah as a recovering Porn Addict I have the advantage of my computer always getting screwed by porn sites...Have to resinstall my OS or do numerous scans and use lots of programs to get my computer healthy again...

About free screen savers and smilies I'm not that stupid, just the porn

That's why you have a third-party firewall, run regular virus/spyware scans on your system and don't click on every link you see. People using the internet without proper protection, (sounds like a safe sex ad) are just asking for trouble. It's all common sense and even thought you hear about viri/spyware on the news, read about in magazines and on the web, people still visit/download suspicious material and fall for the same stupid cons. Then when their computer doesn't work anymore they call a computer repair place and get ripped off even further.

And They See All is right about Limewire and bittorrent tech.

Now where do I collect my free I-pod and my discount V1@6r@? I've filled out my credit information just like the Nigerian bank said.

Well duh!!!! LOL but do you have any idea how many people run computers and have no idea what a firewall is!? It's amazing!

I get other things off LW, not porn.

I know, I've talked to many. Just blows my mind that people don't do any of this with all the coverage on computer security issues nowdays. And I'm not just talking about net-surfing grandmas who accidently click on the "free kitty screensaver" link but supposedly "tech savy" younger people.

But of course people know what not wearing a seat belt can result in but still don't buckle up, and know what ciggarette smoke does but still light up a cig. So it's not suprising that even with all the warnings and info, people still venture out into the net clicking away at everything and falling for the same scams.

I really feel sad when I hear about some elderly person getting suckered into some scam or getting their computer screwed up, but I have trouble sympathizing with people who should know better. All we can do is spread the word, just as you have done here, but sadly I don't think all the education in the world would make a dent in the scams/viri/spyware/etc.

And all the people who open email they don't recognize and don't have a pop-up blocker--and then click on all those nasy ads!

I run the current versions of AdAware, SpyBot, WinPatrol (shich runs in the background) and SpywareBlaster once a week or so.
The reason: I am careful and yet I had crap on my PC that was slowing it down.

Lol the dreaded cookies. I run Avast anti virus which I like better than the pay AV progs I've used. I also run Sygate Personal Firewall and Run Spybot and the microsoft anti-spyware program once a week. I don't even remember the last time I had a virus or spyware.

I had my last computer for 2 years and did basically the same thing, I never had to reformat once. I don't leave my modem on when I'm not using it either, I know lots of people who leave it and the computer running 24/7, not smart if you ask me. I usually shut down the firewall and the AV when I'm not online or when I'm gaming. Even though I have 3.6 GHZ and 2.5 GB of Ram I don't like extra stuff running when I'm gaming.

hm....somehow i feel that the current firewall and anti virus system we have now is still unstable, worms,spyware and other stuff still manage to get into our PC.

another thing, different anti virus and anti spy ware gives different results when they scan your pc, eg i scan my pc with "trend" it appear CLEAN. then i scan with "panda" and worms are found. weird

when i used to download porn off of such a thing as Kazaa i noticed you get Virus constantly, so that caused me to stop. I currently use Norton Anti-Virus once a week, and i update it once a week as well. Really have no problems with Virus'

I sometimes get Viruses just from viewing porn sites,let alone downloading porn.
I run Norton 3 times a week and Spybot and Ad Aware every other day ,so I dont have many problems.

Oh year I forgot about Fireox. I wouldn't use anything else.

I hate my firewall, it so good I can't get online when it is on, I have to turn it off then get online and then turn it back on. I messed with it, had a friend mess with it, but no matter what we do, I have to turn it off before I get on or else it won't let me on.

BTW, Limewire is better for d/l music and tv shows, how I got every episode of Daria and Trigun along with all the music I could handle. It is amazing that so many people d/l porn, don't you know what a porn store is? Most open 24/7, at least around here they are.

That's what they make ad-aware, spybot, anti-virus, etc. programs for. If people don't use 'em, then them's the breaks.

Personally, I've tried to educate all of my non computer-literate friends about this, and in many cases, even installed it and showed them first hand how to use them.

True LadyV, specially when the porn Industry is a BILLION dollar profit thing... how could they make BILLIONS if their product was free???
