I've said in the past that I have no problem with the core message of groups like Antifa (fascists suck) and BLM (stop shooting black people just for being black) but I'm opposed to their more extreme methods.

That's the difference between Right Wing extremists and Left Wing extremists. Those on the Left actually have a good core message. Those on the Right think minorities need to be eradicated.

So not only are Right Wing extremists more prone to killing people they have a reprehensible message.

That's why I don't get people comparing the two sides.

Well I can understand your argument. Ostensibly Antifa and blm have fairer messages.

I do not even think blm is extreme like some on here. I do think the modern identity politics it represents though is toxic and not helping progress.

Antifa does state, like BAM, that they can use violence.

Here’s the thing, whether the ‘identity class’ is minorities, conservatives, or white people, if violence or discrimination not in self defense or legally prescribed is used, it is extreme and dangerous.

Going back to my point, I think a lot of antifa’s critics would be more okay with fighting literal Nazis who are trying actively to oppress them or even take the gov.

What’s not okay is Antifa or allies claiming a much larger range of people are fascist, then claiming the extra judicial right to attack them based on their own judgement.

Finally, any extremist, fundamentalist philosophy from racist to religious to communist, can and has been dangerous in the past, especially when given power and it’s adherents demonize opponents and are justify attacking them. Communism and socialism have a lot of nice ideas, that to you might read better than Nazism.

But, they still killed millions of people..

Nope, you're going to sit here and ride it right into the wall, down the cliff and into the ground. Just like the rest of us have to.

But refreshments will be served, so not all bad....ohh and a movie too....nevermind, it's a hugh grant movie.

Exactly. And the surest sign a group is fascist is that they put ‘anti fascist’ in the name.

Confirmed...

What's unreal? Compare the mission statement of Antifa to Atomwaffen. Which one would you be more liable to join just based off that?

So when the UT-Austin group goes around harassing campus conservatives, that fights fascism how?

What is unreal is that you give a pass to a group you said use extremist methods simply because you agree with their politics.

No no no, he’s already made it clear. Left wing fascism and left wing extremism is perfectly acceptable. The democrats (and this thread) are only worried about right-wing groups.
Because ALL right-wing groups are extremist and hateful.

Compare the actual actions publically seen by most people. Now which group are most people going to look at as a problem?

Given their opposing views are literally Hitler hate speech, they gotta be shut down. Literal Nazis don’t have rights!

Hmm, should I join the Neo-Nazi Organisation that loves North Korea for some strange reason, or the Anarcho-Communists who would destroy civilisation since it can't exist without the state?

Is neither an option?

Yes, I know that's the rationalization they give. The words are analogous to physical violence so they are justified in using whatever means to stamp it out.

But that's an extreme position, and that's what we are discussing, right? Extremism on both sides.

That's the exact opposite of what I said. I said I don't agree with them because of their tactics. I did however say that the constant whataboutism used to deflect from neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups makes no sense.

I think one of the issues is the view towards extremists by more moderate elements of their respective movements.

For example Neo-Nazi groups certainly do exist but they are an embarrassment to the Right. Nobody wants to be connected with these people. They are shunned because of their extreme beliefs.

Compare that to Antifa, BLM BAMN etc. where they are viewed (in this very thread I might add) in a more positive light because of their apparent more noble goals. Some even go out of their way to support them and defend their actions as if they are working towards some greater good.

There was never an evil man in history who ever had anything but the very best of intentions.

ATS is a safe space for racists, neo nazis and bigots.
Any thread, with even slightest criticism of far right groups gets hijacked by Trump cult

'Right wing extremism'= LEFT WING BIGOTRY.

Now state sanctioned.

Wasn't white nationalist that attacked the world trade center in the 90s, or the twin towers, or that was going around murdering, raping, and cutting kids in half over in the middle east.

Everyone knows who the real terrorists are, and it's the GD left wing of 'Murica.

Maybe lawmakers should focus on opening the government first. No sense worrying about your cholesterol when you're on life support.
