It is why the Scots on ATS are so pro EU, they have their social housing and fear losing their socialist benefits.

Unfortunately benefits are a reality for a lot of people. So because we have social housing (at least I am, can't speak for others) it's bad that I want to hold on to that?

Come on Cornish, we agreed that a big issue is that we can't see the reasons why people from other areas voted the way they did. If you lived up here you may well have voted Brexit down too. Not all of us who are propped up by benefits and in social housing are because of bad decisions. I mean I had to chose between being carer to the mother of my kids or face the kids being taken into care. I'd love to be in gainful employment, trying one of my business ideas or at Uni doing a Degree in metalwork but my dreams and aspirations are on hold. Did I make the wrong choice? Should I have abandoned those who need me to the whims of social services so I could go off and make a wad of cash in tbe bullding trade with some Djing on the side?

On this we are in complete agreement my friend.

The thing is; what do we do then?
Just moan on sites like ATS or in the pub or actually do something that will affect real and positive change?

Psst..... want to buy a yellow vest

Quite bizarre that the SNP supports severing all ties with the UK - people with whom they share deep roots and values - whilst shackling itself to a bloated, undemocratic and dictatorial entity like the EU where an 'independent' Scotland will have far less say and influence than it does at present being part of the UK.

Being forced to accept the Euro and all other EU dictates isn't my idea of independence....but if you like being shafted up the aris even more than what you are now well sure, you go for it, good luck and all that.

I have a lot of time for the Scots and have spent quite a bit of time in Glasgow and a bit in Edinburgh and Ayr too and have been to the Kelso Scooter Rally a couple of times - one of the best on the calendar - but this constant yearning and longing for some sort of mythical, romanticised, independent Scottish utopia is both puzzling and rather tedious.

I dread to imagine what the reality of an 'independent' Scotland under EU yolk would be.

Thing is. Unwieldy as the EU is, I'd rather use the Euro and have my currency forced into ECB/Bundesbank discipline than have some Chancellor in London issue an instruction to either borrow or create money out of thin air, simply to pass on to George Soros, a la Black Friday. I'd like my mortgage rate to be long term stable, instead of seeing it rise to the dizzying heights of 15.4%. I want there to be strong regulation in the banking sector, so that you and I don't have to shell out our taxes propping up failing banks (RBoS included). I want multinational companies to pay fair taxes. I want strong environmental protections. I want to be able to wake up and fly to Paris without lining up at the Consulate for a visa. Or paying for one. I want the company i work for to be able to still buy raw materials from Europe after March without paying tariffs which may make our products uncompetitive. It'd be good if we could still sell them # too.

We won't get that when we leave. Not on current terms. Who bloody knows what terms we'll get. WTO terms ? No-one's even explained how that'll work, you've got votes being cast in the Commons by people who haven't the slightest bloody clue what they're voting for. It'll be chaos, no deal, utter chaos. Stock up, peeps.

That's the dilemma we've got. Aye sure, let's go for a no deal and hope for the best. Flying in punnets of irradiated strawberries from Florida, GM # beef, chlorinated chicken and all that crap. Sure, fly that in from 4000 miles away. That makes total sense. I say that, I was horrified to see my Tesco sandwiches the other day, they source their chicken from Thailand. Utter bollocks when they could buy British or European.

I want to be able to go to Aldi and Lidl the first week of April and be able to buy anything ...

I know, there is a dewy eyed romanticism amongst some folk for independence. For others, here and now, it's coming down to economic necessity and the hard cash in our wallets and food in our bellies.

So boring for you, I know. Tedious with a capital T.

If Brexit doesn't happen, Britain will be screwed. What do I think will happen? Britain will find a way to veer off and separate from the EU.

The Euro is a fantastic currency that has greatly benefited Germany. It's completely buggered all the southern Eurozone members and consigned them to zero economic growth, but Germany's doing very well. That's what counts. The French too have done reasonably well. Who cares about the rest?

I am very pleased the UK did not adopt the Euro and feel sorry for most countries that did.

Do you honestly believe that the EU producers of these perishable goods

are prepared to lose money by letting their products rot rather than send

to UK if only in the short term ... I think thats called cutting of your nose

to spite your face '
stupid thing to do!

I want to be able to go to Aldi and Lidl the first week of April and be able to buy anything ...

And WHY wont you be able to? It takes time to unravel ties.

Both German company's doing very well ..... I dont think they will want to

leave any time soon... probably prepared to privately deal with British gov.

Being independent gives you freedom to do your own choosing. I like

making and taking decisions for myself. Not being told what I can or

can't do.

you do ken ye can just not respond to any of the posts , yet here you are still complaining about folk having an opinion ?
or whinging as you call it just because it doesnt sit with your own wee world view !

Honestly you're a hypocrite and you have painted yourself and shown yourself to be anti Scottish (aka a #in bawbag)

you regularly complain about Scots whining so much you'd think you were Scottish,
seriously calling us a nation of wee lassies for having an opinion on anything , you sound more like a wee lassie because you regularly complain when someone else expresses their opinion about their life in another country and how its being adversely affected by political policy that their whole country didnt vote for. You are also of the opinion that its just all about your own family , and everyone else be damned, well believe it or not , not everyone lives like that , some people like to be a part of something greater than themselves, things like political unions.!

I mean the only reason you are having this wee beef of yours with the scots members is because the majority of Scotland voted in opposition to the way you voted !

every single time someone mentions Scotland you cannae help yersel having a wee dig at "Scottish" people or "Scotland"
look at your posts over the past year , every time a scot opines , you have to have your say and reply to them
take a dig at Scotland etc

" the fear mongering is strong" we are the worst for fear mongering aye , absolute rubbish

ye do ken that most people who are on benefits actually work!

is all you think of Scotland is that we are benefit scroungers? and thats why we are feart of coming out of the EU
because we are afraid of losing our benefits ?

Do you ken that tory austerity has been proven to have increased the UK's mortality rate , and here we are going further into financially uncertain tory future with brexit , and you think its a piss take fear mongering , when folk are dying !
Just because its no happening to you or anyone you ken doesnt make it #in any less real

, id be quite happy to be independent from EU and the rest of the UK
because see the last general election the majority of England voted conservative, and Id be quite happy to be rid of they absolute wanks !

Just wait and see when we do leave the Union , how much we are a drain on the rest of the UK

It's just like it's being pointed out to you CornishCeltGuy, the big issue is not Scotland leaving the UK, it is Brexit in all its hollow glory and failed implementation that's the real contention.

Moaning about others voicing their opinions is just silly really, would you rather we all just shut up and do as we are told, essentially think how "they" want us to?

You see it's not race war mate, it's class war, always has been, always will be.

Who is this 'ken' you Scottish people keep mentioning?
I have a mate named Ken but I rarely use his name in general conversation on the internet lol.
ATS is an English speaking website, not a guttural bastardised pretend form of English to try to be different.
When you start speaking the language which I know you are educated in I may engage, but so long as you use ridiculous words from your local dialect I shall not.
You don't see me typing like some old cider drinking Cornish farmer, I use English because I actually went to school unlike Scots on ATS seem.

Now, carry on whining about the UK and hurry up with your referendum so I can be free from reading it.

Bollocks, if an alien read half your posts they'd think babies were starving in gutters by the pavement and nobody could afford a winter coat.
You are a drama queen mate, either that or something is seriously wrong in Scotland which is not the case in my world.
Loads of my mates are on minimum wage, I don't know anyone in cheap social housing because there is next to zero down here, we pay high rents, and high water charges compared to you, but you know what, people are happy and not #ing whingebags like you Scots.

Vote to leave the UK as soon as you can, you can whinge about the EU then lol

I would rather be all the above than a racist UKIP voter if you ""ken"" what i mean.
x

By the way 14.2 million people in the UK population live in poverty, that includes 4.5 million children.

So there might not be babies starving in gutters or by the pavement just yet, but give the foodbanks time, and wait until Universal Credit kicks in, and you will probably get your wish.

Here is some food for thought.

How very dare you. You also wear kilts, all have red hair and play the bag pipes badly. Rab C Nesbitt was a documentary, not a comedy show - don't try to deny it.

We've had this discussion so many times but I'll repeat it. I was a debt advocate with the CAB in a previous career life until government cuts in funding made me redundant.
The overwhelming majority of people struggling to pay bills were making stupid spending decisions. Expensive iPhone contracts for all the kids, the full Sky/cable TV package, delivered food like Dominoes pizza most nights, £1000 sofa on credit etc etc.
You can believe what you like but the bank account statement never lied when they showed it to me.
"Oh little Johnny needs an iPhone or his mates will take the piss out of him" Absolutely pathetic.
I became so tired of dealing with stupid materialistic people I was actually relieved to get laid off.

Scotland sounds crap mate, you should move down here. Same minimum wage but warmer and less people whinging.

I have family and load of friends in England in the likes of Maltby and Derby, from what i hear its no bed of Roses down there nether.

I'm actually considering moving out with the city to a more rural area but austerity is everywhere CornishCeltGuy, not just Scotland, it's across the nation, hence the people's outcry or ""whinging"" as you choose to call it.

That "little Johnny" in the link did not have an iPhone, that's a given.......did not even have anything to eat.
